Periods after Methotrexate

Hi,

I was just after some advice/comfort from people who have been through this before as to how/when your periods returned to some kind of normal?

I was treated with Methotrexate on 27/1/21 with my HCG levels taking around a month to return to 0. I had my first period around 2 and a half weeks after my first negative test but have not had another since. We experienced our ectopic in my first month off the pill (I was on this for around 6 years) so I don’t really know what a normal cycle looks like for me. We are really keen to try again as soon as possible (and are around half way through our 3 month wait) but I am worried about any delay to this with my body (or me) not seeming to know what is going on with my cycle.

We are both trying to be as healthy as possible and I am trying to manage my stress but I am becoming more and more conscious of it now and just want to be able to move on.

Any advice as to previous experience would be gratefully received. I know we are all on the same boat but that also every experience is different , just after a bit of insight if possible.

Thanks in advance xx

Dear Aciddandelion,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

I too was treated with methotrexate and it took a fair few months for my periods to settle into a rhythm that was more normal for me.

Apart from treatment following ectopic pregnancy, periods can be delayed for a number of reasons including stress or even (as surprising as it may sound) excessive exercise or weight loss. Doctors normally consider menstrual cycles of between 23-42 days to be within normal parameters.

If it has been 42 days since the first day of your last menstrual period, please talk to your GP who maybe able to assist you further.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Hi Aciddandelion,

I am so sorry for your loss. I too am trying to figure out when my cycle will return to normal. I had my second and last dose of MTX on 08 FEB 2021 and my HCG returned to 0 on 01 MAR 2021. I had what I believe was one cycle since, but it was very light. Based on that, I believe I am due for another any day. I am still having some pain in the location of my ectopic, even though I didn’t have my tube removed, am not pregnant, and hcg is still zero. Has anyone else encountered this?

Thank you again for posting and wishing you health and wellness in the future. Glad to have joined and hearing from someone in the same boat as me.
