Periods after methotrexate for ectopic

Hi

Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar or has any advice. I got methotrexate on 4th August and levels had dropped within 2 weeks. On 6th September, AF arrived. Normally my cycle is between 28-30 days but this month I’m currently day 34 with no sign of AF. I have done 2 pregnancy tests just to be sure and both have been negative. Which I would have expected as have been being carefully because of the methotrexate injection.

Has anyone else experienced irregular cycles after methotrexate. I hate the constant waiting for AF to appear!

Thanks for any advice or experiences x

After I got my bfp I bled for a long time. I finally stopped bleeding for about a week and a half ( sonogram showed my uterus wad full of blood it just wasnt coming out) and then (after that week) on 38 days after my Methotrexate shot I started to bleed again but I can’t call it a true menstrual cycle Because the blood had just sitting there and my HCG hadnt returned back to negative yet.

Now I am nearly two months post methotrexate and no real menstrual cycle As of yet. Im hoping to get it by Nov 5th.

Dear hel06,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss.

Your periods can take a while to get back to a rhythm that is more usual for you. I also found that my periods changed for a few months after my loss.

Periods can be delayed for a number of reasons including stress or even (as surprising as it may sound) excessive exercise or weight loss. Doctors normally consider menstrual cycles of between 23-42 days to be within normal parameters. If it gets to more than 42 days since the first day of your last period, I would suggest asking your doctors to investigate further. Also, while I do not want to alarm you, if you experience any pain or unusual bleeding, please do get medical attention as soon as you can.

Sending much love,

Karen x
