Period 6 months post methatrexate brown blood clots

Firstly, I’m sorry that you are reading this as it means you have suffered an ectopic pregnancy too. A club membership that nobody wants to be a part of, and a topic that is rarly spoken about. I hope you are gently with yourself and that you remember, you are not alone!

After a miscarriage in May, we were delighted to find out we were pregnant again in July. Unfortunately,at the end of August, we discovered that we were experiencing an ectopic pregnancy in an unknown location. I was treated with methotrexate and my hcg levels finally dropped to <5 in mid October.
Since my hcg levels have dropped to <5, I haven’t had a normal period. All I have had is one or two brown, teaspoon sized blood clots each menstration cycle. Hardly a need for a pad or tampon.
In January, I went to my GP where my bloods were tested and they all came back normal. I was also referred for a pelvic scan, but as we are eager to conceive asap, I went privately with the scans. They all coming back as normal.
I am currently getting acupuncture and she feels that there is ‘heat’ in my womb.

I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced these brown, teaspoon-sized blood clots? And if so, for how long and did you find any reason for it?

Dear Acmcb,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and losses.
Sometimes periods can take 6months or so to get back to what is normal for us. It may mean that you may just take a few cycles longer than most. Which i understand is very frustrating.
It is reassuring to hear that your bloods and scans are normal, but I know that doesn’t help when we want answers.
I am unable to provide individualised medical advice, but I would advise returning to your medical doctors if your periods are still concerning you after another few cycles.
Best wishes,
Karen x
