Periods after methotrexate

Hi everyone

I had methotrexate almost 3 weeks ago for an ectopic. I started to have brown spotting a week and a half later and about 5 days ago it turned to light red bleeding and since yesterday it’s a bit heavier and some small clots. Is this normal bleeding after methotrexate or my period? Thanks x

Dear Elles,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,

generally your periods re-start anything between four and ten weeks after treatment. Most find that their period arrives sometime in the four weeks after their hCG levels have fallen to below 100 mIU/mL.

Therefore it depends when your pregnancy hormones reached pre pregnancy levels. If they have only just fallen, I would suggest that this is the bleed following treatment rather than your period.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Thanks for your reply Karen. My hcg level day of injection was 1200 and last Sunday at 2.5 weeks it was 145. So probably just normal bleeding post mtx?
