Hello ladies. Really looking for advice/reassurance. I had an ectopic in December last year and had methotrexate on Christmas day. My hcg dropped to less than 5 within 3 weeks.
I’ve got my BFP this month (yay!!) but had a dull nagging aching feel on the ectopic side for a few days. I’m not even 5 weeks yet so trying to relax a bit. I’m not in agony but I wasn’t with my ectopic the first time. It’s just a mild pain in aware of a lot of the time. I’ve got a scan on Tuesday when I’ll only bev5 weeks so not expecting to see much but just hoping to see its in the right place. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I’m worrying myself silly xx
Hello,
I am very sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy last year - ectopic pregnancies are traumatic and it takes time for your body and mind to recover. I am sure that there is a part of you that is overjoyed you have managed to conceive but another part that is very frightened of it being another ectopic pregnancy and those fears are perfectly normal.
You are right to be mindful and aware of the symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy. Mild aches and pains and even spotting can all be symptoms of an ordinary early pregnancy. You will be aware, I am sure that if you have increased abdominal pain, particularly on one side, shoulder tip pain or unusual bleeding you should go to you local A&E or EPU - even though you already have an early pregnancy scan booked - and get yourself seen by a medical professional. Make sure you familiarise yourself with the EPT website here http://www.ectopic.org.uk/patients/symp … diagnosis/. If you are concerned but not sure whether to go to A&E try giving your local EPU or your GP a phone call and get some advice first and make sure that they are aware that you have had an ectopic pregnancy before. In my experience of my ectopic pregnancy, I knew I was pregnant and was in a great deal of abdominal pain and spotting slightly, when I presented myself at A&E they took me very seriously and gave me good care. Always seek advice if you are not sure - don’t be embarrassed or feel you are wasting the time of medical professionals!
All that said, try to bear in mind - the statistics are on your side! Although you have an increased risk of a second ectopic pregnancy you are much more likely to have a normal healthy pregnancy
! It is great that you are going to go in for an early scan so that someone can check that the fertilised egg has implanted in the right place. I know all of the waiting for appointments and waiting for answers is nerve-racking and time can seem to drag but try to relax as much as you can. Many of us who have experienced ectopic pregnancy and go on to have a successful pregnancy experience feelings of doubt and fear (as do a lot of women who have not experienced ectopics!). I know this was the case for me - I spent the first 10 weeks worrying it was ectopic and then after that worrying that I would lose the baby in some other way - if I could have the time again I would go back and enjoy my pregnancy more.
Try to make sure that you stay relaxed and positive, stay mindful of the symptoms and be proactive about getting in touch with medical professionals should your abdominal pain and worries remain. Good luck with your scan x
Best wishes, Emily (EPT Host 21)
