Pregnant after ectopic this spring and nervous about pain on same side as previous ectopic

Hi everyone,

Firstly, I am so happy I found this EPT, I do happen to be Canadian and an RN and we don’t have anything like this here and we really need it!!

I am pregnant ( very early at 4.5 weeks) and have just today started to have a little pain on the same side where I had my ectopic pregnancy back in April that was managed with expectant management. I have no bleeding this time which is reassuring, but I am still nervous. I am awaiting my early scan which I know is the only thing that will give me certainty. Is it possible though to still have residual pain from my previous ectopic? I have had a bit of pain there on/off since April.

Thanks and best wishes to everyone in limbo like me!

Alexa

Dear Alexa,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy,

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after our previous experience. When I next fell pregnant I also suffered from aches and twinges and my mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have friends here who understands how you are feeling.

As pain is so subjective, if your symptoms are worsening or concerning you at all, I would suggest seeking urgent medical advice.

Although they won’t diagnose an ectopic pregnancy, completing serial hCG bloods can give an indication of how the pregnancy is progressing. This is not routine practice in the UK but some clinicians do use the blood results as a guide in early pregnancy.

I would contact your medical team to ensure you are booked in for an early pregnancy scan at around 6 weeks, you can also.mention the pain at the same time and see what they suggest.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x

Thanks Karen!! The support is much appreciate and I am going to be booked for an early scan xx

Post an update if you can! Hoping everything is good for you!

Hi guys,

I’m 4 weeks pregnant after a suspected ectopic in April and I too keep feeling the odd twinge in my previous ectopic pregnancy site. I’m waiting for my referral to the early pregnancy unit. The twinges aren’t anywhere near as painful as last time, and no spotting yet either I’ve also had mild cramping around the bottom of my tummy like period pain we only found out yesterday and I’m already driving myself mad.

I have twinges on the side of my previous ruptured ectopic and tube removal site. Am presumed to be 4-5 weeks pregnant, if anyone is able to update it would be gratefully relieved as I’m going out my mind. X

I delivered my rainbow baby in Sept, I would recommend keeping an eye but seek medical advice if needed.

Thank you so much for your reply it has filled me with some much needed hope. I am having regular HCG testing and in and out of hospital anyway as my previous rupture went unnoticed for weeks (thought it was normal pregnancy) and I nearly died so they are being very cautious. Congratulations on your rainbow baby and all the best for the future. X

Glad you’re being monitored thoroughly, take care on this journey and be kind to yourself. Thank you
