My right tube was removed due to a ruptured ectopic at the end of March this year. I’ve had a bad cough for about a week and last night I started to experience internal pain around the area I had surgery when coughing (this came in quite suddenly) and it’s continued today. It’s rather sore and I feel like I need to hold the area when I cough. Could it be pressure around the site from coughing so much? Has anyone else experienced this? It’s easy to get concerned about every pain after my ectopic!
Thank you!
Hi Emily,
Has your pain gone? The same thing happened to me this morning. I’ve had a chest infection for a week and this morning terrible pains have started where I had my ectopic - 6 years ago! I hate to complain but coughing is unbearable and I don’t know whether to bother the dr with this or not!

Hi Velma,
Thank you for responding. Yes, I still have the pain when I cough. I woke in the night and got a bit concerned about it, but on the other hand I know if I go to see the doctor they’ll end up saying I need to go to A&E. I was wondering if it might be completely unrelated and that I’d just pulled a muscle in the same area as the ectopic…I’m not sure! How are you feeling? Do you still have pain?
Emily
Hi Emily,
Yes I do still have pain. Think I will have to wait the bank holiday out and then try the Dr on Tuesday. Fingers crossed the pain clears up with both of us soon!
Velma
Yes, fingers crossed the pain subsides and let me know how you get on at the Dr’s.
Emily
Hi Velma, How are you?
I just wanted to let you know that that my husband spoke to a GP that he knows, and they said the worst it could be would be a hernia but I would be able to see it (which it isn’t because I can’t see it) and he said if it isn’t then I’ve just strained the area due to coughing so much, but it’s not an issue to worry about. Hopefully yours is the same.
Xx
Dear emily1,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and you are quite right we often get worried about things after experiencing such a difficult time such as ectopic pregnancy.
Sadly I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your symptoms, however as you experienced the pain suddenly after coughing, I would suggest getting checked out by your GP just to be on the safe side.
In the meantime, I would advise taking regular over the counter painkillers (as long as you have not been told not to do so by a medical professional) and note if anything like rest/hot water bottles help. Going to your GP with this knowledge may help them manage your symptoms better.
Sending much love,
Karen x
