I had surgery nearly four and half weeks ago. My right tube was removed.
The pain and tiredness were bad for a couple of weeks but then I started to feel better. I was taking pain killers less frequently and was generally up and about.
Now I have bad pain in my right side, exactly where the tube was. I’ve had pain for 3 days now. It’s not as bad as the pain when my ectopic ruptured - if it was I’d be straight down to A&E- but it is preventing me from getting on with normal day to day things. I’m back taking paracetamol and codeine and have to lie down regularly during the day.
My husband says it’s just stress and tiredness but I know it’s more than that. This is physical. I’ve been contemplating ringing the GP but it’s so hard to get through and they’re so unsympathetic most of the time, I dread calling them.
Do you think I should talk to the doctor or are things still healing and I can wait for a bit to see how it goes? Has anyone else experience this?
Dear Dot2dot,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Experiencing some pain after an ectopic pregnancy is normal as your body has been through a great deal. The pain may be due to adhesions (scar tissue that binds two parts of the body together) which form and take some time to settle. Your body may be preparing to ovulate and many women experience ovulation pain when they did not before their ectopic pregnancy - including myself. You also may have a heightened perception because of the sad loss that you have had to go through. If you find you experience offensive smelling discharge or an increased temperature of more than 37°C or just want to be checked out to be on the safe side, it would be worth asking your doctors to run tests to check for infection. If you are not able to manage the pain with over the counter medications or you are concerned, please seek medical advice.
Sending much love,
Karen x
