Is my pain related to surgery

I had an ectopic pregnancy and had my right tube removed on 19th of January. I was starting to feel better physically (not needing pain relief) however about a week ago I started getting lower back pain and some stomach area pain but put it down to my period coming. As the day went on though my body started aching. I have been to see my doctor who after doing a dip test with my urine said my body was fighting an Infection so prescribed antibiotics for urine Infection. I have finished the course today but pain is worse rather than better. Could it just be period pains or something else? Has anyone had anything similar?

I also had my doctor check my belly button wound a week after surgery as I thought it was infected the swap came back positive for infection but by the time the results came back and I saw my doctor she decided it had cleared and I didn’t need anything. Could this still be the issue?

Hi Lindyann87,

I’m so sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell. It’s very good that you are communicating with your doctor. As I am not medically qualified, I can not comment on your specific situation. However, we do find that women report feeling abdominal pains after treatment for ectopic pregnancy. The pain you are feeling could be due to your body healing or as a result of adhesions or scar tissue which forms as part of the recovery process. As you mentioned, It could also be because your menstrual cycle is restarting or because of ovulation pains as many women feel ovulation pains when they did not before. It might also be as a result of heightened awareness after your ordeal.

It sounds like you are doing this already, but as you are mentioning a few different areas of concern (lower back, incision, stomach) you might consider keeping a pain diary too - when you experience the pain and where, its intensity and anything that helps like rest or pain relief, and noting when your period starts. You can take these notes with you to the appointment and the details will help your doctors best manage your symptoms.

Your surgery was so still very recent, and it’s important to allow your body time to rest and heal.

With good wishes,

Michele
