Pain 3 weeks on

I am off to see the e p u tomorrow but I just wanted to get other peoples experiences, I am 3 weeks on now since having treatment by methatrexate ( or however you spell it ) and I am finding it tough one not being allowed back to work yet but every morning I wake up I have period pain it’s not agony but it really drains me also I find I can’t sleep on my left side ( this is the side that the pregnancy was discovered ) but also I can’t sleep comfortably on my right so I am laying straight in bed every night now for 3 weeks so of course I’m not sleeping properly and having to nap during the day which isn’t great as this is going to muck sleeping patterns up etc has any one else experienced this ?

Dear Megan18,

I too was treated with methotrexate and experienced abdominal pain which worsened a week or two after the injection, and then took a further 3 or 4 weeks to settle completely (forgive me for being vague about timings, this was 8 years ago). I then had pain on a monthly basis and not always when my period was due or around ovulation. It ranged from being a sharp, stabbing type of pain to a period type of pain. I kept a diary of the pain, noting when the pain appeared, the intensity on a scale of 0-10 and anything that helped the pain eg resting, hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. I showed my Dr this and they referred me for investigations. I never did find out the answer as I fell pregnant a week before the tests were due.

I am glad to hear you are going back to the EPU, as it is important to notify them of any changes until you are discharged from their care. I hope they are able to offer you some answers.

Although I do not wish to alarm you, I must advise you seek urgent medical advice if you experience any worsening pain, bleeding, shoulder tip pain or feel dizzy and unwell.

Sending much love,

Karen x

I’m 4 weeks on from discharge but I didn’t have methotrexate. I still have pains they’re lessening but it was daily, pain in hip pinching, stabbing and sometimes a low central cramping. I had it for 3 hours the other day and I was swaying my hips. I thought the next day would be worse but it does appear to be getting less and less.

The pain at times pushes through diclofenac and codiene. Seems to get less and better. I had a gynaecologist scan and they said maybe around 4th Dec I could’ve had a burst cyst which then couldn’t be seen as due to Xmas I wasn’t scanned til 27th.

Been told it’s all normal shrugs

Was starting to worry it was something sinister or the fibroids weren’t fibroids etc but then read the ectopic post ectopic leaflet which seemed to normalise post ectopic pains and I discussed on another forum and other people have had variations of the same.

Hi. I had these pains, I thought it was pains after surgery but definitely sounds the same as you. Sleep was difficult, I have a DS so during my first pregnancy I had a maternity pillow which I used for this and it helped big time. Therefore I suggest you try make your own. Tuck pillows in either side and just get yourself supported, or tuck a pillow in between your legs so that your hips are staying aligned. I really hope this helps a little as it did with me. Sleep is important just to get your body back to rights, so if your not sleeping at night try not be too hard on yourself for napping during the day, that can all be sorted once the pains have subsided.
