Hello, I was wondering if anyone has experienced similar pains after having surgery from an ectopic pregnsncy?
In January I had surgery to remove my right tube after having an ectopic pregnancy where they discovered endometriosis. I’ve always had heavy and extremely painful periods. They have gone down slightly post surgery but I’m now finding that I am getting cramps in my right (remaining) tube and ovary area. This usually happens the week after my period and stays for most of the days then gets intermittent for the remaining 2-3 weeks.
Has anyone else had similar feelings? Part of me is worried that somehow something has gone wrong and it’s causing me pain. I went to the docs about 3 months ago and they said everything is ok. However as I didn’t have this before the surgery (and didn’t have a great time in hospital) I’m just really nervous/worried.
I’ve also just started TTC and am naturally nervous about every twinge/pain in case I get another ectopic.
Can anyone offer any advice/share their experience?
Thanks.
Dear Jjj,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
It is normal to experience some pain after ectopic pregnancy as your body has been through a great ordeal. The pain could be due to adhesions or scar tissue which formed as part of your healing. It could also be due to heightened awareness because of your sad loss. Although you state that you feel the pain a week after your period, many women begin feeling ovulation pain (many women including myself never felt ovulation pain before the ectopic pregnancy and experience these sensations after). I think it may be worth keeping a pain diary to record when you feel the pain (including when in your cycle), its intensity on a scale of 1-10 and if anything helps such as rest, a hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. I would suggest keeping these notes for about 4/6 weeks and then seeing your doctors with this information as it would help them determine how best to manage your symptoms.
Making the decision to begin trying to conceive is an emotional rollercoaster compounded by our sad loss. Again, you are not alone. We here emotional support whenever you need us. There is a specific TTC board you can look at too whenever feel ready.
Sending much love,
Karen x
