onwards and upwards

Thank you for giving us two weeks of joy while we thought it was all going ok.

Thank you for letting us find out how truly wonderful our friends are when we realised it wasn’t.

Your dad & I made vows to stand beside each other as we go through life together; thank you for letting us see how very strong that bond is.

You have helped us to appreciate how magical and fragile life is, and how we must cherish happiness where we find it.

You will help us to be better people - more compassionate, patient, and understanding. And also more confident in our ability to survive.

We’d have been so proud of you, so happy that we could spend more time with you.

You’d have looked up to your big cousin, and been spoiled rotten by your grandparents.

You’d have surprised us in all kinds of ways, and it would have been wonderful to be around you to help you grow up.

You’d have driven us nuts at times, but probably not as much as we’d have embarrassed you, so that is something we’ve spared each other.

You’d have been a wonderful handful - but we’d have found a way of stretching our hands if we could have given it a go.

We will hold you with us always as we carry on with our lives, with people we know would have loved you dearly.

We will not remember you with tears, but every time we laugh.
