Hi all,
On July 29 I had a condom break. Even though I am on birth control I took plan b because I had missed two pills before. I got brown and pink spotting from 8/9-8/16. My period was supposed to be from 8/14-8/20.
I have had urine tests done at the doctors and at home-- all negative. Even a blood test the 2nd day of my supposed period. Negative. Now, about two weeks after my weird period I am having bleeding again.
The bleeding is red, brown, and prune colored. Typical for me. But a more watery consistency. I have also had abdominal cramping/pain.
Couls this be ectopic? Or a side effect of plan b? Has anyone had an ectopic with negative tests? I am not sure if I should go in for blood work. Please let me know.
Dear Palomie,
I am so sorry to hear of the worrying time you are going through.
From looking on websites, it looks as though the emergency contraception you look, plan b, is a drug called
Levonorgestrel. In the UK it is known as Levonelle, rather than plan b.
Following taking levonorgestrel, your next menstrual period might be different:
Often you can experience early mild bleeding or spotting, this is probably caused by the levonorgestrel and may not be the start of the next menstrual cycle.
Most women will have a normal period at the expected time; some women will have their period later or earlier than normal.
It is advised to take a pregnancy test if your expected period is more than 5–7 days late or bleeding is lighter than usual after taking the tablet.
You mention that you are experiencing unusual bleeding and now cramping so I would always advise to seek urgent medical advice with these symptoms, as I am not medically trained and cannot rule out ectopic pregnancy.
Sending much love,
Karen x
