Mild shoulder tip pain on day 2 of methotexate

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has experience intermittent, light shoulder tip pain whilst in methotrexate?

I am on day 2 of the methotrexate and have cramping and intermittent shoulder tip pain.

Does this always mean rupture? Will I have to get surgery or can it be linked to the medical management?

I have called my EPU and am waiting for them to call back but any advice from anyone in a similar situation would be much appreciated?

This is my second ectopic. Last time my right Fallopian tube was removed during surgery and this time they see a mass near where my left tube meets the uterus.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Hi LJP37,

I’m so sorry you are going through this worrying time. I just wanted to check in and see how you are doing. Have the symptoms remained the same or any changes?

I know how challenging this time period can be, especially in a 2nd ectopic pregnancy. As best as you can, I hope you can find ways to look after yourself and take it as easy as possible. Our sensitivities can be extra heightened since we’ve experienced the trauma before.

It’s good that you’ve been in touch with the EPU, and continue to ask your Drs any questions you might have. I know you already understand the signs of rupture, but do continue to look out and don’t hesitate to call 111, or visit A&E should you need.

Please know we are here for you at any time.

With good wishes,

Michele

Hi Michele,

Thank you for getting in touch.

The EPU said that seeing as the pain isn’t strong then they don’t feel I need to go in at the moment.

The shoulder tip pain is intermittent still, but probably more frequent I would say.

I have my 4 day blood test tomorrow since my methotrexate injection. I do feel like my hcg levels have increased but I understand that’s normal on day 4. I will mention the increase in the frequency of the shoulder tip pain. I just really want to avoid surgery, if I can.

Fingers crossed they are going down on day 7 and it will be the beginning of the end.

Best wishes

Lucy
