Late period three months after tubal removal.

Hey girls,

I lost my left tube due to a ectopic pregnancy back in July and since all I can think about is being pregnant again. After healing and grieving a little more every day, we’ve decided to try again.

I was told at my post op consultation to try again. So we have been. The first month I thought my period had become regular again, with the understanding it could take time to get back on track. I ovulated around the time I did before getting pregnant and my period came at the right time also but this month, I haven’t seemed to have ovulated but had constant ovulation pains (both sides) for about two weeks and my period seems to be late, by 4 days.

I’ve done a test just incase and it’s negative. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Dear BParker1995,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

I completely understand the desire to conceive, it can however a number of months for your periods and cycles to return to a rhythm that is more normal for you.

While generally it is possible to conceive after an ectopic pregnancy, the amount of time it takes varies from couple to couple. Factors include age, general health, reproductive health and how often you have sex, among other things. It may be comforting to know that 65% of women are successfully pregnant within 18 months of experiencing an ectopic pregnancy and some studies suggest this rises to around 85% after two years.

In addition. having regular sex means having sex every 2/3 days throughout the month. Guidance from the UK’s National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence advises that having sex around the time when the woman ovulates causes stress and is not recommended. We here at the EPT suggest having intercourse 2/3 times between days 10-20 of their cycle when trying to conceive.

Sending much love,

Karen x

The same thing has happened to me. I had an ectopic pregnancy in July and my periods seemed back to normal after 3 months so we decided to try again. My period is now 2 weeks late but I’ve had 2 negative pregnancy tests? I have got a bit of an ache in my lower back but I’m a farmer and have been doing lots of physical work recently so I think that’s muscular. I’ve also been getting headaches but as before work has been very busy so I think that’s stress.
