Hello, so I am around 5 weeks pregnant following surgery for an ectopic (January 2024) and two miscarriages. I’ve noticed today the scarring on my belly button at the bottom is red and I have burning sensation - I am almost worried it’s bleeding from under the skin. Has anyone experienced this or know what it could be? This didn’t happen with my last pregnancy that got to 9 weeks.
Dear LTQKVS,
Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy.
We are unable to provide medical advice. It could be pregnancy hormonal changes on the skin, however redness and pain to the skin can also be a sign of infection so, I would advise speaking to your doctors with any concerns. If the redness spreads, you develop a temperature or fevers or feel unwell with flu like symptoms, please speak to medical professionals as a matter of urgency.
In the meantime, you could try using a bit of moisturiser on the area to see if it settles down at all.
Don’t forget to book in for your early pregnancy scan at around 6weeks. A lot of EPU’s in the UK accept self referral, if yours doesn’t, please speak to your GP surgery who will be able to do this for you.
Sending positive thoughts,
Karen x
