Hi I had a ectopic pregnancy and since then haven’t become pregnant, my consultant said I could go down the IVF route if haven’t fallen pregnant by dec. I’m so confused and scared. Could I still have a ectopic if the embryo is being put into the womb directly? Just really can’t go through another ectopic
Hi Sara07,
I just wanted to say that so many of us have fears of ttc after having an ectopic pregnancy. I did, and honestly, I still do. After suffering ectopic pregnancies, it has changed the way I view pregnancy and I can’t undo my experience. I do know that with time that some of the worries fade, and that there is hope in the statistics that getting pregnant is possible.
With IVF, there is a chance of ectopic pregnancy resulting from embryo transfer during IVF treatment as embryos can travel into the Fallopian tube, for example, during the implantation stage. Importantly, With future pregnancies, it is possible to have early scans to ensure you have the right help in the beginning. Usually scans are scheduled for the six week mark. Having had a previous ectopic, you can have your GP refer you or you can self refer to the EPU for the scan.
Most importantly, please take these next steps in your own time. What may seem like ages of waiting, may only be months in the grand scheme, but it could afford you some extra recovery time and space.
With good wishes,
Michele
