Is a Lap recommended after ectopic and methotrexate

I’m just wondering if I’m better off getting a Lap or just a hycosy dye study before trying again.

I was successful treated with methotrexate and waiting out my 3 months but have reached under 2 for my hcg (Australia doesn’t go to 0) do advised I can now take folate so will do so for the 12 weeks before trying but I’m considering an exploratory lap. Is this recommended? Thank you

Dear AML,

In the UK it is not common for people to have further investigations before trying to conceive unless it has been specifically requested by a doctor, so we have very little evidence to advise on this.

We generally advise against them as they can introduce infection and also as in the case of HyCoSy, tubal patency tests cannot provide complete peace of mind. Even if a tubal patency test shows an open Fallopian tube, it does not show whether it will work – only a normally located pregnancy can show that at least one Fallopian tube worked.

The test is not 100% accurate as the Fallopian tubes can go into spasm during the test and can appear blocked even though this is not the case. This can cause unnecessary anxiety if the Fallopian tube is affected by spasm but in face is actually working normally.

The test cannot determine what the internal villi of the Fallopian tube look like.

I would advise discussing any thoughts of further investigations with your medical team.

The decision on when to resume normal physical activity, including Lap (Lap) exercise after ectopic pregnancy and methotrexate treatment, should be made on an individual basis and by the doctor overseeing your treatment. It is important to consider not only your physical recovery, but also your overall health, test results and your doctor’s recommendations.

Methotrexate is commonly used to treat fetal cells that may remain after an ectopic pregnancy. The recovery process may take several weeks or months. Your doctor will monitor your vitals and, if necessary, recommend certain restrictions and a recovery regime.

Discuss with your doctor your physical condition, your desire to return to physical activity, and any specific recommendations for Laparoscopy. It is important to trust your doctor, who is most familiar with your medical history and can provide personalised recommendations appropriate to your particular case[url removed per Trust policy]
