Hi Mary. I guess my situation isn’t typical. I was back at work 2 days after my surgery, so really it didn’t effect my money situation so much. I did end up taking up a few days off in the months following my ep because I was depressed, stressed out, infection, etc. But, I never really took days off before, so I just used sick/vacation days.

Hi Mary,

I didnt have surgery but was treated with Methotrexate. I went back to work after a week but I would say it took me at least a month to feel healthy again.

I’m sorry Mary, I feel like an idiot! I thought you meant fiscally!!!

Well, anyway for me to feel better physically, it took over a month. Probably close to 2 months.

LOL

I was REALLY in alot of pain after the metho shot. I was in immense pain (cramping) for about two weeks after. I was weak for another week or so … I would three weeks all together, but it is different for everyone.

I was completely off my feet with the Metho shot. I was so tired in the first 3/4 days that I couldn’t keep my eyes open and I didn’t go outside for about a week because I was so physically weak. I had two weeks off work in total just to get myself fit again. I’d say it was atleast a month before I felt physically “normal”. Emotionally it was much longer.

I ticked the 1-2 month box but would say it was a full 2 months as I had methotrexate first and 9 days later had surgery. They started with laporoscopy then went ahead and did full laparotomy and removed right tube so I had the bloating from the gas, tummy button stitches and the big one across my belly. By 6 weeks after my surgery I was feeling more like myself but the days after surgery I felt like an old granny.

My scars all healed well with no further complications or infections.

i ticked the one-two month box as that was how long it took to get back on my feet and feel fit enough to cope with work etc but its now been 3 months and i do still feel twinges and get the odd random pain now and again

I had 6 weeks of work as i work with babies and my boss thought it was best i had as long as i needed to recover. i was back on my feet after about 2 weeks as i was bored been in bed.

i had keyhole and my scars really became painful during my recent pregnancy, Ruby is now 5 weeks old

currently I am 6.5 weeks post surgery. I had a ruptured undetect ep that require er surgery. massive internal bleding.

both keyhole+bikini incisions. removed left tube. in hospital 3 nites. 1st 2 weeks awlful. don’t realize how much u use ur abdominal core until they are operated. I am now 6.5 wks post surg. phyiscally major progress. I do have 2 jobs. 1X that is mostly administrative wk 2X athletic which I still have not returned to. I will not return until 9wks. I don’t have insurance and I want to give my body rest. right now I still have fluid retention above the bikini incision which bumbs me out because it makes me feel fat! all my clothes are tight around the waist due to fluid. still not back to my normal gym routine, probably after new year around 8wks, my dr said not to expect where I left off…tiny steps. to me take care of ur body its the only one u get. much love ladies…we have been through a lot.

Needed four months of work, In a lot of pain for nearly nine months. It was the worst time of my life, after the second EP I need three months off, mainly for emotional reasons than physical that time. I needed to be cut open for both operations. As I had ruptured

Update…

I am about 9 weeks post surgery. Finally feeling a 100% better. I even started back at the gym a week ago. At first it was challenging to be exercising, but am getting my routine down. Definitely started off easy on my body. I am so relieved to be feeling like myself and being able to get into shape and move on from this horable experience. Cardio is doing wonders for both physically and emotional recovery.

nice to see it s possible to recover 100 percent

i m still down t he road, tho i m thinkin the emotional hit is gettin to me now as well.

little sigh nonetheless

Hey Mary

Don’t get me wrong - everything is just about in working order but I wouldn’t say my physical recovery will ever be complete - there is too much about me that’s changed physically as a result of my ectopic surgery.

My abdominal muscles (which weren’t great to begin with) have never been any good since

Despite having had a baby and regained good pelvic muscle control afterwards - ectopic surgery ensured that this was a never to be repeated state of affairs physically and lets just say you wouldn’t catch me on a trampoline any more

I now have pain at ovulation and sometimes it really HURTS

I also can have really aching pain between ovulation and my period on the side I had my surgery and it can stop me from doing stuff I would have done before - fortunately, as I am heading towards a more perimenopausal phase of my life this is thankfully increasingly less as my periods take longer to appear

I certainly don’t ‘respond’ in the same way to sex with my partner, whom I absolutely adore, so it’s not about going off him or anything … than I did and you might argue this is psychological but actually stuff ‘feels’ different not least of all my ‘scar’ area which still drives me a little mad with it’s wierdy feelings of partial numbness and sometimes it just plain hurts if it’s 'poked and I have just realised that symptom appears in the bit where I began talking about sex and I don’t mean that in respect of my scar - I am a strange lass but not that strange LOL!

So things are better than they were but you know what? I know, I will never ever physically recover my former self completely - I have just had to learn to live with the new self with the quirky bits and are a lasting little rite of remembrance to the baby I lost to ectopic pregnancy and so I don’t mind that. I don’t have a grave to visit but I do have a funky scar that feels strange and reminds me of the love I feel in my heart for all my babies living and otherwise

… But for any new lady reading, please remember, I did have major surgery, as laparoscopy wasn’t an option sadly, so I had a huge scar, so a lot of my stuff is likely to be due to that and thankfully keyhole prevents a lot of this kind of thing today and more women are treated by keyhole now than every before, with the incidence of it increasing thank goodness

I say I felt better about 4 months into it. but emotionally i am not sure I will ever feel 100%. My emotions are still pretty raw when it comes to the baby. Not sure I will ever be completely healed from the emotional part of that.

I had a laparoscopy then ended up having surgery to remove my ep and right tube in augest 07.After coming out of hospital both my surgical sites were infected i was in agoney for approx 3 monthes.Having to go to the distrect nurse every day for dressing changes and swabes.Maybe bacause its took so long to get over the physical scares that i am know grieving with the mental scares anyone else feel the same?

its been a little over 4 months since my surgeries. in my last reply I stated I felt a 100% better, I wanted readers to understand…that only time can heal. at which I was so relieved to actually be able to get around without intense physical pain. emotionally, this is something I will never recover from. I almost lost my life from internal bleeding…this to me was an indelible experience. so everyone’s recovery “is” and “means” differently to each individual.

Love & Light

I took 5 weeks of work after the surgery as i was still in alot of pain, I still get twangs every now and then and my ep was 8months ago, i dunno if that’s normal or not really. I was also emotionally drained as this was my 3rd pregnancy that failed so i had to try and pull myself out of a depression, I still find the emotional side quite hard to deal with though!! xx

Very quickly actually - even though I am 48. I didn’t rupture which probably helped (but I was nearly 9 weeks along). Within a week I was swimming & within 2 weeks running w/ no pain or discomfort. Scars are tiny. It’s quite difficult to actually believe what has happened really . . .
