Hello there,
so I had an operation last week Thursday, they removed my right tube due to an ectopic pregnancy of 5 weeks. We never used contraceptive as the reverse gear worked for 2 years thus far. We found ourselves deciding condoms were the new way to go. But first moment of lust and seems we forgot our plan of action. I am super paranoid about how fertile I am at the moment and this method landed me pregnant in the first place. What does anyone suggest I do? Should I rush in the morning and grab a Morning after pill? Im worried this may cause an ectopic pregnancy aswell? I have bled after the surgery for my normal 3 day period kind of thing, this ended 2 days ago? Please help…
Dear Kayleigh94,
I am sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and the worries you are having now. I can understand your having concerns and this is perfectly normal after everything you have been through recently.
Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific information on your situation but generally
before you can have a period you have to ovulate. It is possible to ovulate within 14 days after surgical treatment so it is possible to become pregnant without having a proper period first if you are not using some form of contraception. If there is any chance that you might be pregnant, please do contact your doctors as soon as you can. I would advise discussing your options including emergency contraception with your doctor.
As a gentle reminder regarding conceiving again, we and many medical professionals advise waiting for two menstrual cycles. It is important to allow time for your body to recover and emotions to surface and be worked through. This is so that you have some comfort that your body is returning to its natural rhythm and you have a last menstrual period date from which to date a new pregnancy - key information in checking you are not suffering from an ectopic pregnancy in the future. The first bleed soon after surgery for ectopic pregnancy is not classed as a period as it is the body’s response to falling hormone levels.
Sending much love,
Karen x
