My first pregnancy (May of 2022) was ectopic and was successfully treated with MTX. I got pregnant again a few weeks ago, and my doctor asked me to come in for serial blood tests so she could track my hcg levels. The first two (36 hours apart) were okay but not great- numbers had doubled over three days but just barely. The next (48 hours later) was more problematic- just a 30% increase. She brought me in for an early scan, and it like things are in the right place this time. But based on the numbers, she’s pretty sure it’s not viable and I’m heading towards a miscarriage.
I don’t know what I’m hoping for by posting this- reassurance? Empathy? Im just so sad and I can’t stop crying…
Hi June_bug,
You are not alone in these feelings. TTC after an ectopic can be a worrying and anxious time. I also experienced a miscarriage after ectopic pregnancy. On the one hand, I was grateful that it wasn’t emergency surgery, but on the other, miscarriage is a loss in itself. It caused me a great deal of grief and sadness. Please look after yourself right now, and try to take things slowly. Its very good that you are being looked after by the doctors, but also know that we are here whenever you need.
With good wishes,
Michele

Just reading this now and feeling a little bit of comfort that I’m not alone in my experience. Had an ectopic pregnancy in June 2022 and suffered a miscarriage at 6 weeks in January 2023.
I’m so sorry to hear about the experience of levels not doubling as they should. It causes so much extra anxiety as you sit in wait to find out how your pregnancy is going to turn out.
I started acupuncture for fertility after my miscarriage and am hoping to try again in the coming months. Its just a nice reminder to know we aren’t alone in our experiences, because sometimes it really feels that way.
