Has anyone else got late BFP with ectopic?

Hi there,

I was pregnant last year in May, and had my left tube removed in July at 10 weeks as an emergency tubal ectopic, after 4 weeks of blood tests and being diagnosed PUL. It was very a traumatic experience for me with all the waiting and not knowing and emergency surgery etc.

I knew that I was pregnant within 2 days and as it happens (by chance) had a BT on the day of ovulation that confirmed I was ovulating, although I already knew. At that time my breasts became very swollen and painful, I was thirsty and peeing all the time within a week and I felt a tug as the egg implanted at 10 DPO. I couldn’t do up my trousers and felt bloated and bunged up all before my AF was due.

I had a scan at 2 weeks (for something else) that revealed a complex cyst in my left ovary, they thought it might have been cancer (so was tested for that as well), but in fact was the corpus luteum. I suspect that I may have had more than one egg that time (I had not ovulated the previous month) and that lead to the large complex cyst and hence the massive surge of progesterone.

At that time although I knew I was pregnant I could not get a BFP. It took me until 22DPO to get a very feint pink line, only then later confirmed by BTs which showed a very low HCG of 75 at 6 weeks. It continued to rise very slowly over the following weeks.

I assumed that the long wait for BFP was due to the ectopic and the fact that the egg was in the wrong place meant that it was only releasing very small amounts of HCG.

Has anyone else experienced this, or did you get early BFP with tubal ectopic pregnancy?

I ask because I think I may be pregnant again - tingling heavy breasts/enlarged nipples (although not swollen or sore this time), period cramps for two weeks since ovulation, bloated and constipated, feeling exhausted even though I have just had 2 weeks off work, waking up in the night to pee, thirsty all the time and strange taste in mouth. I think I may have ovulated early this month, which means I am around 16 - 17DPO.

I am due to get AF today, tested and got a BFN, same as it was 3 days ago. Still crampy but not as intense as it was for the first week and a half PO. I am concerned that I may have low HGC again because of another ectopic?

Any other members had very lat BFP due to ectopic, or early BFP despite ectopic?

Thank you for reading my rather lengthy message, any messages gratefully received.

I am in my 40s and have been exploring IVF, so I also had a scan at the start of this cycle as part of that, and would be over the moon if I am pregnant, as long as it’s on the right place of course.

Thanks,

Geco

Hi Geco,

So sorry to hear if your ectopic last year.

I had an ectopic in January this year. I was given methotrexate which didn’t work so had the operation and my left tube removed a week later.

When I got my bfp for that pregnancy I was 2 weeks late (I’d been testing every couple of days). Admittedly my cycle isn’t always regular so I wasn’t overly worried at that point. I have a 2 year old as well and was 6 days late when I got my bfp with him (after testing every day since AF was due). I just assumed that was what my body does. I ha e seen other comments about links between late bfp and ectopic but just as many people will most likely say they had an early or on time bfp. Like everything with an ectopic there doesn’t seem to be any consistency.

I really hope you are pregnant and that baby is safely on the right place

Dear Sar,

Thank you so much for your response and for letting me know that you also had a late BFP. I am very sorry to hear of your recent ectopic and surgery, I really hope that you are on the road to recovery, it took me such a long time to get over the shock of the surgery and the loss.

Sadly AF arrived bang on time on Monday this week with a vengeance! I am not sure what has happened but something strange was up and I don’t think that I made it all up in my head. Maybe there was something and it just didn’t take this time.

I have been investigating IVF these last few months (hence the scan last cycle) and trying to prepare for that through detox and diet, cutting alcohol, caffeine and all other such related pleasures and through yoga and meditation, mindfulness and coaching. I hope to start next month but because of my age finding a suitable clinic has been harder than I thought.

I wish you all the best for a full recovery over the course of time.

Best wishes,

Geco x
