Getting over a ruptured ectopic first pregnancy

Hi all

I would like to share my storie as I hope it helps others who might be going through the same thing, I am 36 and this was my first ever pregnancy it was unplanned but I was thrilled as I have always wanted to be a mum.

7 weeks in I started to lightly spot nothing heavy no pain nothing I called the out of hours hospital and they told me if no pain and not a lot of blood just to rest as not serious.

So when I was still spoting a week later I had my first midwife apppointment and they said they would send me in for a early scan the next day.

So that morning I woke up the next day early luckily at my sisters or I would have been on my own felt a sharp pain in my stomach and went all hot and passed out next thing I knew I’m in the ambulance getting rushed to hospital all the while in and out of conciousness I get to a & e where I died and they had to resuscitate me and give me 5 blood transfusions and rush me to theatre as I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy.

I wake up 8 hours later with drains, catheter and loads of needles everywhere wondering what happened!

Now this only happened 7 weeks ago but I would like to share as I know there was nothing I did wrong or anything I could have done to prevented it but I am sad angry even as I really wanted to be a mum but if I can share and keep just one person going through what I did and I am here to tell the story it means I have given another person a chance.

Hi Emmat1981,

Thank you for sharing your story with others on this board. While going through an ectopic pregnancy and loss is not something anyone wishes, these boards provide some comfort to know that you are not alone in the experience. I am so sorry of everything which you have been through, and know the scary situation that is an ruptured ectopic pregnancy.

Your surgery was just a short while ago, and I hope you are continuing to look after yourself. Ectopic pregnancy is both a emotional and physical trauma, and it takes time for our recoveries. Each recovery is unique and in this time, rest and care are so important. It was very lucky that your sister was with you. Importantly, help is available with future pregnancies with an early scan at around six weeks gestation. This is to check that the embryo is in the right place and we suggest contacting your local EPU direct to book this in when you next become pregnant.

I’m glad you’ve reached out through these boards. Please know that we are here for you for as long as you need.

With good wishes,

Michele
