Brief history - I have a 19 month old son conceived after two years of trying with an ep and a mc in that time. I’m now trying for another. (Greedy I know!) We’ve been trying 8 months and I’ve had a mc in that time. Because I’m now over 35 I’ve been to the GP and we are having tests done.
My tests have been a mixed bag. They were mostly fine but the progesterone one showed I didn’t ovulate that month. My pelvic scan showed a cyst on my right ovary. I knew about the cyst already as it’s been picked up during ultrasounds before. It’s apparently not linked to PCOS.
My questions are - Could a cyst on my right ovary (which has been there at least four years) have cause the ectopic in my right tube (which at the time I was told was near the ovary)?
Could a cyst be stopping me ovulating?
Could a cyst cause other fertility issues?
I suffer quite badly from mid-cycle spotting and I’ve never been given an answer why.
Thanks in advance and hoping for lots of pregnancies on this forum!
Hi Beth, thanks for replying! I haven’t been told but I know it’s not PCOS. And I assume it is not a functional cyst because apparently these last for a short time and I’ve had this one for over 4 years. Pure guess - but wondering if it could be a dermoid cyst… x
Firstly, so so sorry to hear of mc, but it’s exciting you’re trying again.
I can’t offer much in the way of help with the cyst question as I have no experience of these, but just wanted to say hi and that I’m sending you lots of luck. Xxxx
Thank you Jodeflo, it’s lovely to hear from you. You’ve not got long to go have you? Exciting times!
Feeling a bit low today as just had a chemical pregnancy My period was due on Fri and it didn’t show, so I did a test on Sat and it was a faint positive. But I’ve started bleeding today and the test isn’t showing positive any more
Oh honey, that’s not nice. You’re very much allowed to feel low due to that. I’m sure you’ve already had this thought, but having HCG in your system will only make you all the more fertile.
I really really hope it’s not long for you sweets. Xx
Sorry for the delay in replying and sorry to hear of your chemical pregnancy.
If you are concerned about the cyst, the doctors should be able to tell you what type of cyst it. I would have thought this would either be recorded in your notes from the scan or, if not, you could ask to be re-scanned so they can diagnose it.
Speaking personally, I have a dermoid cyst on my right ovary (discovered during my scans for my ectopic pregnancy). I have had 6 -monthly scans to check whether it is growing and had advice on the pros and cons of surgery. I would be surprised if your doctors just diagnosed a “cyst” and did not offer you any further information as this seems very unhelpful. If you are concerned about it, perhaps it is worth pushing for further investigations / scans and advice.
Thanks for your reply. I’ve just had a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy to check for problems in my tubes/womb and the surgeon was planning to remove the cyst but she found it had gone on its own! I was told that everything looked healthy and the dye ran through both my tubes which I was very pleased about. I’ve had a number of tests now to determine why I keep miscarrying and I’ve been told I’ve got elevated natural killer cells so I should have an appointment through the post soon to try to get some treatment for that.
Just thought I’d let you know that I too have elevated NK cells, so on both cycles of ivf post transfer I began taking a steroid called prednisolone, baby aspirin and a daily 25ml clexane injection. This continued until week 10 of pregnancy when I could stop injections and ween off the steroid. Xx
Just thought I’d update. When I went to see the miscarriage consultant Mr Shehata, he told me that whilst my NK count was elevated it wasn’t high enough to increase my risk of miscarriage. But he did do a thrombophilia screen and found that I have inherited the Factor V Leiden gene from one of my parents which means that my blood can clot too easily and could be linked to the miscarriages. I’m now on daily baby aspirin and should I get a BFP I’m going on daily injections of fragmin and progesterone suppositories x
