I’m being expectantly managed, which I’m so grateful for.
On Monday my hcg dropped for the first time, which I was obviously thrilled with.
Today, however, it has risen again.
Now I’m being told to go in in 2 days nil by mouth, in case they need to surgically intervene.
I’m quite upset about this as I had felt it was all resolving and I’d miraculously escaped treatment.
Has this happened to anyone else? I’m really hoping it’s just a blip and it’ll drop again by Friday. Really don’t want to be in hospital over Christmas!
Is it usual for it to dip and then rise?
I had cramps yesterday and am exhausted today - my nurse seemed to think they were good signs
I am sorry to hear of the increase in hCG. We often see a slowing down of hCG and it taking a while to reduce back to normal but we have to be very careful with a rise in levels. If you do need further treatment, have they mentioned methotrexate as an alternative to surgery?
I have added information here on methotrexate (it is not suitable for everyone, but perhaps worth asking about)
I hope this is only a blip, but with a rise in levels, I must advise you seek urgent medical advice with any worsening bleeding or abdominal pain or you feel dizzy and unwell.
Sending much love and positive thoughts,
Karen x

Thanks both. It’s not really what I wanted to hear
Emma - how come you ended up with methotrexate? Was that your choice or did you see further rises and they say you needed treatment? My level is currently 709. It was 750ish 6 days ago, then dropped to 660 2 days ago and has risen back up today. I wasn’t actually due bloods today, I got in contact as I felt dizzy so had an extra scan etc.
Thanks Karen. I feel OK currently. I’ve been scanned today and told them about my dizziness etc. Everything I’ve got going on is quite mild so hopefully I’ll make to Friday without needing to contact anyone again
Such a difficult time! Yeah mine done the same they were declining so decided to leave me and check every 48 hours, they then rose and they just phoned me to come back for the injection, they said they gave it its chance and it went up quite a bit so they decided they’d just go for some medical management! I’m glad you got a wee scan today it’ll help settle your mind and anxiousness! Did they mention any possibility of medical management? Hope your doing okay xx
Thanks for getting back to me what were your numbers/symptoms/ size like?
They’ve said my actual pregnancy is tiny, which is comforting. It was so small it was actually missed in the first two scans.
Initially they said all 3 treatment routes were optional but that was last Friday, then my numbers rose and I was told to come in nil by mouth on Monday. But then on Monday they’d dropped so I got sent home to be expectantly managed again. So I’m not entirely sure what options are on the table now. It’s all such a roller coaster isn’t it?
I know it shouldn’t matter for your health, but I really don’t want any treatment to start right before Christmas
So I started bleeding with like brown discharge and that was my first symptom, I’m a worrier so I got checked immediately and it took them 3 scans to find mine as well, they kinda already knew tho because they said they couldn’t see anything in my uterus. I can’t remember my numbers exactly before the shot but I think they were rising slightly around 6/7 hundred odd then the day they gave me the shot they had near enough doubled! Last week they were around 200 odd and I have my next bloods tomorrow to see where they are at ! It is definitely a roller coaster and a lot of back and forth you feel like you’re in limbo! No I totally get that I was really unwell for a good week after the mtx shot I was struggling to even shower, walk to the toilet etc so I wouldn’t have liked to get that right before Xmas, although when I was kept in last Friday for heavy bleeding they did say if my numbers have rose or not come down a lot tomorrow they might look at doing another shot! All the waiting and the unknown is really scary.
Sorry you’re looking at a second shot. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. It’s so all consuming isn’t it? I really hope your numbers have come down tomorrow and you escape a second round.
I knew ectopic pregnancy was an awful experience for people but it takes a real insider to realise the emotional impact of all the not knowing and ups and downs. But then I’m considering myself so lucky at the same time - I think I’d grieve my fallopian tube really hard if it came to that.
Have you been going a long time? When was your initial diagnosis?
It really is ! I had the shot 3 weeks ago on Thursday there - had bloods yesterday and they’re down to 71! Back next Friday for more and hoping that will be the last
Hope you had a lovely Xmas ! Sorry to hear they pleataud but I hope you get some good results and big drop tomorrow .
My next bloods is Friday coming and I don’t know why but now that Xmas is over I’m feeling really anxious, it’s been a busy few days and I’ve done quite a lot so I’m feeling really run down and tired, and again really fearing a rupture as I’ve been a bit more active! Friday can’t come quick enough !
