Expectant Management - hcg dropped and then increased

Hi,

Appreciate that no one can give medical advice here but has anyone had an experience similar to this before?

I went to hospital with symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy last week, hormones very low (90 for hcg) so went home and came back on Friday and hormones had gone down to 60 hcg. Went back in today and hcg had increased to 130 and progesterone up to.

Can they fluctuate like that? Anyone else had this. I’m just trying to figure out whether I can wait it out or if its likely to be surgery. Internal scan showed some fluid but quite inconclusive.

I’m going back in 2 days to get bloods done again. I had surgery in Feb for another ectopic so I just don’t want to have to do that again.

Hi ! Even though my numbers have been much higher than yours they’ve been doing the same ! Was given methotrexate today.

Im so sorry your having to go through this for a second time x

Hi Lauren,

I just wanted to check in and see how you were doing today. I know you are returning for additional blood work in a day or so. While I’m not medically qualified to comment on specifics, early pregnancy can be a confusing time. With your previous ectopic experience, it is good that you are being monitored and followed.

I’d encourage you to take it as easy as you can over these next few days, as you are monitored and have more certainty. As you know, it’s important to monitor your symptoms and to call your GP, NHS 111 or A&E if symptoms worsen. We are here for you any time. I know it can feel quite anxious to wait for results. Please be kind to yourself during this time.

With good wishes,

Michele

Hi,

Thanks both for your kind reply.

Results unfortunately have kept increasing, though still low in the 200s. Just got to make a decision whether to go for methotrexate or surgery now. I’ve got an appointment for recurrent miscarriage/ectopic at the end of Jan. The doctor said that if I keep the tube now they might still want to do a Laparoscopy then anyway to check the health of that tube, so I might just be delaying surgery anyway.

It’s just so hard to make a decision on whether to keep the tube if I risk having this happening again which is something that is really hard to cope with.
