I’ve had an ectopic for a few weeks now and was being conservatively managed. My hcg dropped but is now climbing again. I have to wait 48 hours for some more bloods although I could have had methotrexate today. Has this happened to anybody else. I feel like I can’t take much more and have now had to go off of work which was taking my mind off of it thanks
Dear 1987
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss.
I cannot personally comment on your experience as I was treated with methotraxate but I can give you general advice.
The main risk associated with expectant management is that the cells of the ectopic pregnancy might continue to divide, which could result in there still being a need for medical treatment or surgery after a period of expectant management. Around 25% of women, who are expectantly managed initially, go to on to need medical or surgical treatment. Doctors can tell if the specialised cells of a pregnancy that produce the hCG hormone are dividing because the hCG level will rise and not fall.
Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, occasionally an ectopic pregnancy can rupture despite low hCG levels. If you are concerned about your level of pain, or experience any unusual bleeding or feel dizzy and unwell please contact your hospital.
I understand that this can be such a difficult time for you and we are all here to support you,
Sending much love,
Karen x

My hormone level had stayed the same so I didn’t have methotrexate. I was really comfortable yesterday so I said I’d wait another week to have my bloods taken again.
Typically today I’m more uncomfortable again today. I’m petrified of surgery but this has been going on for a month now and I think I’m getting to the end. Has anybody had to wait longer than this?
Thank you
Hi
I had a similar situation to you.
Miscarried 5 weeks ago and they were monitoring my levels, which were rising and falling. I was told they would just keep monitoring me, but then a different consultant saw me and said that he believed it was ectopic as had been going on for so long.
Had key hole surgery yesterday and my tube was 3cm swollen so they removed it.
My advice would be push to see another consultant. I was very close to rupturing. It was a shock to me as I felt fine at the time.
All the best xx
