hi I am looking to hear if anyone else has been in this situation please. had an ectopic pregnancy 10 yrs ago, a miscarriage in 2010 then had my beautiful son in 2012. got a faint positive on a sensitive test 19/9/14, last period was 18/8/14 (all previous tests were negative) and had an early scan yesterday. they have ruled out an ectopic as saw a gestational sac in the uterus but no fetal pole or heartbeat. they want me back for a scan in 2 weeks time. it seems an agonising wait. I am hoping I may not be as far on as I think as have only had 2 periods since coming off the contraceptive implant and one cycle was 33 days, the other 27. has anyone else had to wait this long? I wondered if they would check HCG levels and look if they were doubling but no mention of this. limbo land is horrible.
Dear Tinkerbell
Whispered congratulations. It know it will feel like the longest wait in the world but it is good to hear that the doctors have ruled out an ectopic pregnancy. I can only speak from my experience but when I had a second pregnancy after an ectopic, the hospital took my bloods first before scanning me. I think the gap between the bloods and the scan was about 2 days. They said that they needed to know the hormone levels to know whether to expect to see anything on a scan. I had to argue quite hard to get to that stage so it was not ideal (I was living temporarily with family in the country and found the hospital care was not as switched on as it was when I had my ectopic pregnancy in London, but that’s another issue…)
Anyway, after checking my bloods they scanned me at what would have been c. 5/5.5 weeks and could only confirm the sac in the uterus. They told me to go back in 2 weeks to confirm the heartbeat. In the end, because of other circumstances, I wasn’t scanned again until the 12 week scan. I would have been put at ease earlier had I had the chance to go back for a c. 7 week scan.
