Hi all,
My wife had an ectopic last year and it was as bad as it can get, full on crash team and she made it through the operation with only the loss of one of her tubes. Relieved wasn’t the word.
For the past 4 months we’ve been TTC. However this month has been odd… She’s now 5 days late and she did 2 pregnancy tests last night, both negative and then one again this morning, also negative.
Naturally I’m majorly on edge about things around this after last time and she’s normally as regular as clockwork on a 28 day cycle. Does anyone have any experience with this? Could it be that her body is just not producing the hormone? She’s had her pap smear done and that was all good at the beginning of the year. I’ve suggested that if we don’t know anything more in a couple of days we head to the GP.
Apologies for asking these questions here, but it’s difficult for a guy to get this information anywhere and this forum really helped us both after the ectopic last year. Just really worried for her and at the end of the day it’s my job to try to keep her safe.
many thanks for any advice
HH
Dear HH,
I can imagine how unnerving it must be right now…for both of you. There can be several reasons for a delayed period. For example, an increase in stress level or some weight gain might delay it. However, if your wife has been very regular with her cycle then a delay can very likely mean that she is pregnant. It takes some time for it to show in the home pregnancy test…maybe you can repeat the test in a week’s time. But it is ideal that you book an appointment with your GP, given your wife’s history of ectopic. Maybe a blood test will be a better option than a home pregnancy test.
Good luck to you both and my warmest wishes that you guys are very much pregnant and are onto a happy and healthy pregnancy. Lots of prayers and best wishes your way.
Thanks Polka, really appreciate your response. We’ll keep going along with the tests then and hope for the best, I think we’ll probs contact the GP tomorrow.
No change in her stress or weight levels so we’re a bit bemused, secretly hoping that the next tests will be positive, it was a bit of a blow last night seeing a double negative.
Anyways, here’s hoping. Just like to wish all the best to all on here.
HH
Hi HH,
I’m wondering if you and your wife have seen your GP? It maybe worth asking their advice.
I can tell you my personal experience, similarly to your wife, my cycle has always been extremely regular. However since having an EP, it has been a few days late or early. I think this is just my body getting back to normal since the trauma of the operation.
I am sorry to hear of your scary experience. Wishing you and your wife all the best

Dear HH
I’m sorry for the delay in answering your post, but the advice you have been given by other users is sound. It is possible to be pregnant and it not show up on a home pregnancy testing kit. It is also possible to sometimes be late for another reason. However, given your wife’s history and the fact that your gut is telling you that something seems different, I would urge your wife to go to your doctor for a blood test. We have a list of other symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy here - http://www.ectopic.org.uk/patients/symp … diagnosis/
This is not said to alarm you, so please do not panic. It is just better to get things checked early if you are concerned.
Much love

Hi, I am so sorry for what happened to your wife and my heart go’s out to you both. I suffered from an ectopic early this year and was always like clockwork before it happened. In the months following my period was all over the place and a few months back I was 6 days late and took many test’s all negative before I got my period. Its only in the last two months I have got back back to my regular cycle and I think it can sometimes take the body awhile to get back to normal. I wish you both all the luck in the world.
