Choice of methotrexate or surgery

Hi all,

Just joined this group after having two miscarriages and then yesterday finding out I had ectopic at 6 1/2 weeks. My HGC levels were high but as I am coping with pain I have choice of injection or surgery!?

I’m desperate to concieve after trying for a year and half. Which option is better for future baby chances? I’m booked to make decision with doctor at 10.00am in two hours so any advice would be appreciated.

I’m just desperate to having a healthy little baby!

Thanks for support during this difficult time.

Hi hun, I was treated with mxt and found it a very long process. I have just had a mmc and had a d&e which I know is not the same but recovered much quicker. It’s a really hard decision to make and only you and your partner can really make the call. I hope whatever you decide to do you have a speedy recovery. Xxx

Ps, I did get pg with my lg the second month we could ttc after mxt. Which was just over 4 months from diagnosis. Xxx

Sorry me again, I had one shot due to low levels and scan confirmed that the ep was on the outside of my tube so I wasn’t in as much danger and had no pain. Xxx

Hope you are OK sweetie. Xxx

Probably too late. But I opted for methotrexate as guided by my doctor. And personally I wanted to avoid surgery. That was in September and in February I found out I was pregnant again.

Hi

I had an 6 week ectopic with a heartbeat. Hcg was 5500. They tried a high dose methotrexate shot. My ectopic was at the high end in size & hcg criteria for methotrexate. They there was an 80-90% chance of success. Next day I ruptured and lost the tube.

I’d advise having a detailed discussion with your doctor about your ectopic about size, hcg, heartbeat, ect. If you are at the high end, maybe consider the safe bet and have surgery. If you havent ruptured they will probably be able to save the tube and just remove the ectopic.

I tried to read about ectopic treatments and their fertility success when I had my ectopic. I think the research study i found said there was an 85% spontaneous Bfp rate with methotrexate, 80% with surgical removal of the ectopic and 51% with removal of the tube.

My doctors though said that if the one remaining tube is healthy, it can sweep between both ovaries - increasing the chance of conception to 70%.

Hope that helps. I hope you are ok. Im sorry you are going through it. We know how painful this experience is and afterwards one feels shell shocked.

Hope you are OK sweetie. Xxx
