Chemical pregnancy after ectopic

Dear all,

I was told today that my pregnancy is not viable due to a decrease in the pregnancy hormone levels. It went from 24.4 to 19 in 2 days. Also, I had an ectopic pregnancy 9 months ago resolved with MTX.

Today they told me what I have it’s called chemical pregnancy, but I’d like to know if anybody could reassure this because I am afraid it could be another ectopic, although the hormone levels are not very high. I am not bleeding yet neither. Anyone with a similar experience? Thanks.

@Sawisiwi

I know how you feel. I had an ectopic pregnancy 6 months ago and lost my left tube in surgery. Less than 2 weeks ago I found out I was pregnant again. I instantly knew something was wrong as I’d tested a few times already and the tests kept coming back negative even though hcg should have been showing up in those tests. My first blood test 2 weeks ago was 187 and 3 days later it dropped to 51 and by the time I got home from the hospital I was starting to bleed. I told them at both scans to double check my right tube and make sure it wasn’t an ectopic because my first ectopic was originally diagnosed as a chemical pregnancy until a few hours later when my bloods came back with a massive increase in hcg. Every niggle in my right side makes me worry that they might’ve missed something again but I’ve got to trust and pray that everything is OK.

I hope you are doing OK and that we are both pregnant again soon with healthy babies. Take care x

Thanks for your answer, NovemberRain. Lots of support back to you. Hope they discard the ectopic pregnancy for you too. I’m in my third day bleeding and hope this is over in a few more days.

Yes, I also hope we can be pregnant again soon and it’s a healthy one. Take care :pray::crossed_fingers::blush:

Dear Sawisiwi,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and losses. To experience one loss is difficult, to deal with multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.

A chemical pregnancy sadly means it is a very early pregnancy loss and so usually they haven’t been able to see anything on the scans. Although they do not know the location of the pregnancy, it is encouraging that your levels are low and reducing meaning that it is resolving without the need for treatment. I presume you will have another hCG to put your mind at rest and although I do not wish to alarm you, I always say to seek urgent medical advice with any concerns about bleeding or abdominal pain or you feel dizzy and unwell.

Please be kind to yourself and allow time to grieve, to heal both physically and emotionally,

We are here for you for as long as you need,

Sending much love,

Karen x
