Hello,
I have no diagnosed conditions or underlying factors that caused my ectopic. I conceived first time trying…
Everything on this site says it’s a 10% chance of repeat but I went to the doctor’s last week as I was discharged after expected management with no follow up from a consultant and I had a few questions and it came up in that conversation that I now have a 30% chance? Now I am incredibly worried to try again. We can start trying next month and this hasn’t filled me with much hope at all. Was she outdated in her advice?
Was there something in my notes from the hospital that made her say this? To my knowledge it was all pretty ‘text book’ ectopic. Nothing overly unique
I feel so disheartened
Dear Kath,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss. I am sorry to say that I am not sure where your consultant has this information. We use information from NHS NICE guidance which still states “The risk is 10% if the woman has had one previously, and 25% with two or more previous ectopic pregnancies”.
From my own experience my first pregnancy was ectopic and I went on to have two successful pregnancies so I hope this gives you a little more reassurance.
The important thing to remember with any subsequent pregnancies is to have an early pregnancy scan. As soon as you know you are pregnant, contact your local EPU to inform them and book in for an early scan at around six weeks. Remind them of your previous ectopic pregnancy. This self refer route is the best route in our view. Hopefully you will have some comfort to know you are under the radar of medical professionals right away.
Making the decision to begin trying to conceive is an emotional rollercoaster compounded by our sad loss. Again, you are not alone. We here emotional support whenever you need us.
Sending much love,
Karen x
