Advice required please

I had an Ectopic back in 2016 and successfully fell pregnant with my daughter in 2017 (now 3).

My husband and I are thinking of trying again but needless to say are worried of the implications. Does anyone know stay the chances are of us having another Ectopic are even after a successful pregnancy/birth and were we would go for some advice regarding TTC and a previous ectopic. Thanks so much for reading x

Hi Char_93x,

I’m so sorry that you’ve suffered an ectopic pregnancy and loss. It’s very normal to have worries about trying to conceive. Many feel that way; I did and still struggle with it. It can leave us with many questions and I’ll do my best to help.

In the UK, the repeat occurrence of an EP is about 10 percent chance, but looking at it another way, there is a 90 percent chance of embryo being in the right place. With future pregnancies, it is possible to have early scans to ensure you have the right help in the beginning. It may provide some comfort to know that it is usually possible to conceive successfully after having an ectopic pregnancy, though the time it generally takes varies considerably from couple to couple. Approximately 65 percent of women are healthily pregnant within 18 months of ectopic pregnancy and some studies show this rises to around 85 percent after two years.

We understand how nerve-wracking this all can be. We are here for you, for emotional support too, and these Boards are a safe space for you. We here for as long as you need.

With good wishes,

Michele

Thank you so much for the response Michele.

Following my Ectopic I had a successful pregnancy with my daughter who is now three - Which I’m so grateful for.

We are now hoping to try again does this mean the chance of another ectopic is still 10% even though we’ve had a successful pregnancy following an ectopic?

Sorry to sound stupid!

Hi Char_93x,

I have been through a similar situation and can understand that it causes some concern. That is my understanding, although a successful pregnancy has been had there remains a 10% chance of ectopic pregnancy. The good news is that you’ve been able to have a successful pregnancy, and have a sense of the symptoms to be on the lookout for and how to reach out for medical treatment. Of course, we are here for you throughout the journey.

With good wishes,

Michele
