Hey, so I got my methotrexate 11 days ago, I have been bleeding since but between last night and today it has hardly been anything and only really a little amount of brown watery discharge. My bloods was last checked on Friday and had fell to 348 it was 1680 to start with before the mtx. Does this mean my bleeding is coming to an end ? I hope it is ! Tia xx
Update**
So I went to the hospital last night with pains and feeling unwell, the dr done a scan and bloods she said my mass has stayed the same size but my numbers are still dropping but have slowed down a bit, on Friday they were 348 (from 1600 off before mtx) and only dropped to 296! She said there’s no signs of rupture and even less free fluid than there was last week, so I’m back on Friday for more bloods. This whole process is so draining I was hoping it would be quick with how quick they were falling to start with ! And now I’m wondering if they might do a 2nd injection. I’m going to try the green tea from now till Friday and see if it’ll make a difference.
Dear Emma,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,
Some women do not bleed following treatment with methotrexate, some will get occasional spotting and others will bleed quite heavily. This is normal.
Regarding you hCG levels, I am afraid it is difficult to predict how long it will take for your hormone levels reach non-pregnant levels. As we are all individual, our bodies respond differently to the drug and it depends on factors like how high levels reached and our unique physiology. What I can say is that it can take a number of weeks and, while it can take some time, it is not as invasive a procedure as surgery. It is also encouraging that your levels are falling steadily although I appreciate that it can be a drawn out process. Also, in terms of chances of future successful pregnancies, studies do not show a significant difference between treatment routes, whether surgical, medical using methotrexate or expectant management (allowing time for the body to resolve the pregnancy itself).
Sending much love,
Karen x

Hi Karen, thanks for your reply. I am really just praying that I am one of the ones treated successfully treated with mtx! If you don’t mind me asking how long did it take for you to get to not pregnant levels? I’m fully aware that it can take a while but it’s the mental aspect of the waiting it’s really draining and playing havoc with my anxiety! Trying everything I can to keep calm and not worry
Thanks

Hi Emma,
It’s slightly difficult for me to remember as my ectopic pregnancy was over 11 years ago. I remember it being around 3-4 weeks. I’m sorry I can’t be more precise. I really do understand how worrying the wait is and not being able to do anything to speed up the whole process. I hope you get some more positive news on your next blood test. I will be thinking of you,
Sending much love,
Karen x
