I’m wondering if someone could give some advice. Me and my husband have been trying to conceive sfor 2 and a half years now with no luck. I had a eptopic with right tube removed three years ago. Since then we have tried everything. We have no been referred to hospital for tests. My ovulation test came back fine. What happens next? We are so desperate for another child, a brother or sister for our son. Thanks
Not sure if this helps but here’s my recent experience:
I had ep in feb. They saved my tube. We were told if I wasn’t pregnant in 6 months we should get a referral to the fertility clinic. In August my GP referred us as I hadn’t got pregnant.
I didn’t manage to time my progesterone test right so levels showed as low. Fsh and lh were fine.
We had our appointment last week and the consultant suggested we go straight to ivf without the need for tubal investigations as he was quite sure there is a problem with my tubes. I also have endometriosis so that might contribute to his thinking about my tubes.
We’ve received our initial paperwork through for our ivf referral and I’m now waiting for my period so I can get my base line scan done (it has to be done between days 2-7).
Hope this helps but if you want to know anything further just ask.
Thanks for your reply. Sorry to here about your eptopic it’s awful, I feel your pain. Hopefully when we go to see consultant we get more answers. So did you need to get the dye test done? I haven’t had that yet. I’m so scared to go though it all incase I have another eptopic and lose my last tube. Ano ivf you have a small chance but it’s safer then other methods. How long did it take from your referral? Sorry for all the questions x
Sorry for your ep too. No worries about the questions.
We waited 8 weeks from the date of my GP making the referral to the date of our fertility clinic appointment with the consultant.
I haven’t had to have a dye test. I fully expected the consultant to want to do that before ivf but he wasn’t too keen as he was clear in his mind that my tubes are the problem. Also ivf is pretty much our only option treatment wise due to other issues I have like the endo and so the outcome would be the same regardless of the result.
In terms of waiting for ivf post fertility clinic appointment, we had our fc apt on Monday last week and got our paperwork through on Friday and I need to book a scan and more blood tests (day 2-7) when I get my next period. Post scan we’ll have an apt with the consultant. If he’s happy with results we can start ivf.
From what I understand i then have to phone the clinic on the first day of my next period and the drugs etc on day 21 of that cycle.
So it seems that once you’re in the system everything can happen pretty quickly.
Hi Danni
I’m not sure how old you are, but just to say that we at the EPT advise that women under 35 should seek medical advice following 12 months trying to conceive after an ectopic pregnancy, and those over 35 should seek advice after 6 months.
You could approach your GP and explain that you have had an ectopic pregnancy and have since been trying to conceive for over 2 years. They should discuss options with you in more detail and refer you to specialists for consultation. Typically they might consider blood tests to establish evidence of ovulation and possibly a referral for a Hysterosalpingogram test (HSG). We have more information about the HSG test on this page under the heading ‘Testing’ http://www.ectopic.org.uk/patients/trying-to-conceive/
Wishing you all the best

I’m 26, we went to the doctors a year ago to go for test, but at the time my head was really messed up with having the eptopic. We decided just to keep trying and get married in the mean time. Still nothing. We went backnow to doctors, I had bloods taking, cane back.I’m ovulating fine. My husband had handed a specimen in today. Now we just wait. I just hope I don’t have to go through to many test. I’ve never had a problem getting pregnant before the eptopic, so I think this is happening because I only have one tube. X
Been to see specialist, my husbands sperm count is fine and all working. I’ve got to have laparoscopy next week. I’m petrified. Has anyone had this sergery? Any advice appreciated x
