Hi ladies. I’ve not been on here for a while so will quickly summarise my situation. I fell pregnant unexpectedly 4 and a half years ago and have a gorgeous little boy who I’m very grateful to have. We decided to try for number 2 around June 2 years ago. Since then we’ve had a blighted ovum and 2 ectopic pregnancies. I have had one tube removed, the other was saved but has had scar tissue removed. I’m not sure of the state of the remaining tube and have to wait til Feb to find out (a year since my surgery).
I go through periods of calmness and positivity but find other times difficult and get quite tearful (such as this week finding out a friend is pregnant for the second time since I started on my ttc journey, as I also approach my ‘would be due date’ and also the 2 year anniversary of my blighted ovum).
The doc suggested taking up yoga to help me relax, which I’m going to do, but I also wondered if alternative therapies such as reflexology/ acupuncture / reiki claim to help this sort of fertility problem (rather than simply for those who can’t get pregnant and don’t know why) . Does anyone know anything about them or have any experience of them? I’m thinking reflexology really (I don’t like the idea of needles and don’t think I believe in reiki… although I don’t know much about it)
I am sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancies and losses. You have been through such a rollercoaster and I absolutely understand seeking ways to get through those difficult days. I hope you don’t mind but I just wanted to mention the EPT’s alternative therapies policy:
The EPT is a charity that has the backing of many medical specialists and prides itself in providing accurate, research based medical information. Whilst we understand that many people are interested in the use of alternative and complementary therapies, we do not endorse these on our site. We therefore remind you that, should you wish to make use of these therapies, you exercise caution and also avoid recommending them to other users of the EPT forums. Many complementary medicines are quite powerful and can have harmful side effects if misused. They may also interact with medicines that you may already be taking, or intend to take. Please remember that “natural” does not always mean safe – indeed some of the medicines that are prescribed today (including some controlled drugs) are derived from natural products. Many “natural” or “herbal” preparations can interfere with prescribed medicines or even make an existing condition or illness worse.
Buying medicines on the internet is far from safe and you can never be 100% sure that they do what they say they do, or contain exactly what they say they do. Lastly, there are many unscrupulous people out there who are quite happy to make money from vulnerable groups of people like ourselves, making claims that cannot be substantiated about products and services they aim to supply to you, so do be aware of this and only seek guidance and or alternative treatment from appropriately qualified and registered individuals.
I really hope you don’t mind my referring to this as I am afraid I am required to do so. We would hate for anyone to be caught up in claims that cannot be substantiated and would like to point out a little guidance in this way to help those who might need it.
Sending you good wishes
Munira
