Trying to conceive

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone has had fertility acupuncture and whether they felt this was effective? I have had three sessions so far and am taking Chinese herbs too provided by my acupuncturist.

I’ve been try to get pregnant for the past 9 months following my ectopic pregnancy in April last year. I had my right tube removed.

Any tips would be welcomed.

Thank you x

Dear Obrien2020,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

Unfortunately as Trust we cannot recommend complimentary medicines. I have personally had acupuncture which I found relaxing but it wasn’t to help for fertility.

The EPT is a charity that has the backing of many medical specialists and prides itself in providing accurate, research based medical evidence. Many complementary medicines are quite powerful and can have harmful side effects if misused.

We would not recommend taking any herbal supplements as they may also interact with medicines that you may already be taking, or intend to take. Please remember that “natural” does not always mean safe – indeed some of the medicines that are prescribed today (including some controlled drugs) are derived from natural products. Many “natural” or “herbal” preparations can interfere with prescribed medicines or even make an existing condition or illness worse.

Lastly, there are many unscrupulous people out there who are quite happy to make money from vulnerable groups of people like ourselves, making claims that cannot be substantiated about products and services they aim to supply to you, so do be aware of this and only seek guidance and or alternative treatment from appropriately qualified and registered individuals.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Hello

Just wanted to add here, that as per Karen’s post, this is absolutely true, please follow medical advice and research before taking any of these herbs and therapies.

Sometimes we get drawn into taking this route because its deemed ‘safe’ but as Karen mentioned it doesn’t always make it safe. We also start feeling the need to become pregnant and we sometimes get ‘stucked into’ things because of our vulnerable state of mind following the pregnancy loss and history.

My advice is, get all your hormones checked first because if there is an underlining issue, then you can be prescribed the right course of treatment through a doctor and you could be taking things that could be making your condition worse.

I have been down the natural therapy route and it did not really work for me, but I am now on a medical route which has medical evidence backed up for the condition I have.

This wonderful platform also have given me some great advice and information to support me.

Hope this helps!
