Advice Please

Hi, I was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice. Me and my partner have been trying to conceive since July with no positive pregnancy tests. The last couple of weeks I was feeling very sick and had sore breasts, my period was due on Sunday but then Saturday evening I started bleeding so was obviously disappointed but thought nothing more of it. Then yesterday and today I have had sharp pains in my pelvis and sorry for the TMI but also my rectum. My bleeding doesn’t seem abnormal to me but the pain I have felt has been unbearable at times and I stood up at work earlier and I nearly lost balance because it was so severe. I generally don’t have even mild period pain normally. I have in the past suffered from 3 miscarriages and now I’m a bit concerned from what I read on NHS website that these symptoms can be related to an ectopic pregnancy. Can anyone offer some advice? Would it be best to call NHS? Thanks in advance x

Dear Sophiep84,

Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, the symptoms that you have could be suggestive of an ectopic pregnancy.

Unfortunately I am not medically trained but with the information you have provided, I would suggest seeking medical advice straight away.

It is now out of hours to contact your GP, but you can access medical advice by calling NHS 111, or if you have one the local out of hours GP’s for your area. Please mention all of your symptoms when you talk to them.

If you bleeding worsens, the pain becomes severe again or you start to feel dizzy and unwell, I would suggest going to your local A&E as a matter of urgency. Do not be afraid to call 999 if needed.

I am sorry if all this alarms you, but it is definitely better to be safe and be under the care of medical practitioners.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Hi Karen, thank you for the reply. You have not alarmed me any more than I already was so please don’t worry. The pain seems to have subsided slightly but I’m going to call NHS just for peace of mind anyway.

I honestly just thought it was my period and I’m hoping it is but something also doesn’t feel quite right so best to be safe than sorry. Thanks again x
