A Negative blood group - another thing to worry about

Hi,

I just wanted to ask if any women on here has A negative blood group and has had a successful pregnancy?

June 2017 I had an ectopic pregnancy, last month I had a miscarriage. They were my first and second pregnancies and we have no children.

This time around they checked what blood group I am they said I’m A Negative and needed an injection the nurse didn’t give me much info about why I needed the injection and when I ask she just gave me a leaflet to take home.

Since then I’ve read a lot about it and think I’ve got my head around it. If my baby also has A negative blood then there’s no worry as we both have the same blood group. However if the baby has a positive blood group and somehow passes into my bloodstream then my body would attack the blood and see it as a foreign object.

I just feel like it’s another knock back and blow to us starting a family and feel like even though I’m a women my body just wasn’t made to carry a baby even down to my blood group there’s more issues.

I just wanted to get other people’s views / opinions/ experiences. Thanks xxxx

Dear Sunshinewalk88,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and losses,

Sadly I am not medically trained and haven’t had any personal experience so cannot give you specific advice on rhesus factors and pregnancy.

I have provided further information here

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/rhesus-disease/

If you have any further questions, I would advise speaking to your GP.

Sending much love,

Karen x
