I had yet another scan last week. To my absolute shock I was told there was now 2 yolk sacs - still no babies and that it’s possible it’s just a very early TWIN pregnancy. It’s coming up to 3 months now?? Surely something would show? Then the nurse told me it’s not looking very good and I will likely miscarry but I need to go back in 10 days for another scan to check viability. My emotions , nerves and patience are shot to pieces.
Dear anxiouslywaiting89,
When diagnosing an ectopic pregnancy, doctors use a combination of transvaginal ultrasound scanning and blood tests to check HCG levels. Usually scans take place at around six weeks gestation as there is a reasonable chance of seeing an embryo at around this time. If scans are inconclusive, doctors usually test hCG levels and a hCG level that is rising by less than 66% over 48 hours can mean it is likely, but not a certainty, that the pregnancy is ectopic.
As you have mentioned that your scan showed a small gestation sac with a yolk sac, I cannot be sure, but it could be the case that it may be too early to see a pregnancy on the scan.
I would be led by the medical team for advice n further scans and blood tests but I will be keeping everything crossed for you.
Sending much love and warm hugs,
Karen x
