Today I was told I have a caesarian scar ectopic pregnancy.

Has anyone else had this type . What am I to expect with treatment ect :frowning:

Dear littlemissm,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss, personally I did not have a cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy but I will do my best to provide you with general information.

The information provided may be difficult to read, please take your time and be gentle with yourself and feel free to ask questions here or seek further clarification from your medical team.

The information we give at the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust is that early treatment options for this very rare form of ectopic pregnancy include removing the pregnancy using 1) suction & a cervical stitch or 2) keyhole surgery, or 3)using methotrexate injection/s. We are not aware of any other forms of treatment at this point unfortunately.

The treatment of caesarean scar pregnancies is potentially difficult so management has to be individualised on a ‘case by case’ basis. Despite appearing to increase in incidence, they are still relatively uncommon and so some hospital see very few of them. Accordingly, there are moves to focus care in these cases to regional units with experience of these problems both to optimise care and to collate information to make sure there is a better evidence base to inform treatment decisions in the future.

You may want to discuss with your medical practitioner, the pros and cons of every treatment option.

While I do not want to unnecessarily scare you, if you wait for nature to take its course there is the risk that the embryo may continue to develop and cause rupture. This may lead to heavy bleeding and be a risk to your wellbeing or even life threatening.

You can also find the information on a caesarean ectopic pregnancy on our website (http://www.ectopic.org.uk/patients/what … pregnancy/)

Again, there are pros and cons to every treatment unfortunately, and I do invite you to have a look at the different treatment options for ectopic pregnancies to give you a better understanding of what to expect from being treated with Methotrexate for example. You can find the information here http://www.ectopic.org.uk/patients/treatment/

Generally, patient choice is important but it is essential to work with your doctors for a safe solution for you. It is important to stay in close contact with your doctors and be near a hospital at all times in case you do need urgent treatment.

If you live in the UK, and you would like to speak to someone who has been through an ectopic pregnancy to ask any questions or express thoughts or feelings you are welcome to let us know and we can arrange a helpline call. Details are below.

In the meantime, I do wish you lots of strength as you deal with your ectopic pregnancy and the discussion of treatment options,

We are here for you should need any further guidance,

Sending much love,

Karen x

Oh my goodness they’re so rare. I’ve been part of these forums since January and you have the only scar ectopic I’ve ever seen other than my own.

I was diagnosed at 5 weeks with a scar ectopic and went straight into hospital for methotrexate treatment. They did four shots over 7 days. My Hcg didn’t stop rising so it eventually ended in a laparoscopic guided d&c under general anaesthetic. It was very hard but I am now four months post treatment and everything is starting to feel ok again.

Wishing you all the very best. Ella

How’s it all going? Thinking of you x

Hi there. I have been diagnosed with a possible scar ectopic. I have found very little information. Can I ask how your recovery went?
