Surgery to unblock tube in UK?

Hi guys.

Long story short, I had an ectopic pregnancy & lost my right tube I then had a second ectopic pregnancy not long after in my left tube & got treated with 2 doses of methotrexate as the first one didn’t work. Thinking about going forward, is there anywhere in the UK that does surgery to possibly unblock my tube to hopefully have a successful pregnancy or is there anything I can do? Desperation is kicking in & im trying to find answers to my problem.

Many thanks

Claire

Dear Claire,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss. To experience one loss is difficult to deal with multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.

Sadly, there are no tests or investigations that can be done to assure you that you will not experience an ectopic pregnancy again. Ectopic pregnancy occurs because of some underlying damage to a fallopian tube and the cause of this damage may never be established.

You mention a blockage in your tubes. Have you been told they are blocked? Unfortunately there are many risk factors for ectopic pregnancy, and not all are due to an actual blockage in the tube. We have more information here-

There are tests that can be completed to see if there are any blockages in your tubes. You would need referral from your GP to a fertility specialist for this. this is a Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) test. Sadly all investigations can have side effects such as pain and possibly infection.

We have more information on testing here under the heading Testing, and I would recommend speaking to your GP about a referral.
