Hi Everyone
I had surgery for a ruptured ectopic pregnacy last thursday. I was a-symptomatic and had no pain other than some mild period like cramping, which is why they didn’t realise that was what was going on with me and it went on for so long.
I’d been told I’d had a miscarraige 3 weeks ago after a negative pregancy test which was done at the doctors after some inital bleeding, but then was having random bleeding/spotting for a few weeks. The main ‘symptom’ for me was that I was having really severe panic attacks (which I’d never experienced before and were terrifying) as I had this innate sense that something really bad was about to happen to me. So I was actually being treated by my GP for panic disorder and has been put on the waiting list for talking therapy and looking into taking antidepressants.
It wasn’t until I played netball last Monday night when I suddenly started cramping and having brown discharge (old blood) that they even did another pregnancy test which was positive. At that point I was told I should have a scan to see what was going on. They scheduled that for Saturday initally (!) But I phoned and said I wanted it resolved ASAP and then they got me in and as soon as I had the scan I was admitted to the ward.
So all very full on.
Initally I felt back to normal and “myself” but since the weekend im having daily panic attacks again and just feel there is something wrong but cant separate it from perhas the trauma I’ve gone through?
Is it worth going back again to the doctors to get checked? Still feeling low level nausea and quite tired. Anyone else experience this post surgery? I don’t have a temperature.
Thanks
Hey, really sorry to hear what you have been through and your right it’s traumatic.
I am just over two weeks post surgery and have my little one’s communal cremation tomorrow and also feeling very low but certainly having better days than I was these things take time and you should be kinder to yourself and what you have been through physically and mentally.
In regards to the nausea and tiredness I still had this for over a week post surgery as the pregnancy hormone is still present in your body so I was still having pregnancy symptoms I’d had before my ectopic surgery, nausea, sore breast and so tired…I was testing after surgery to watch for my levels dropping off and the test did get lighter every few days and I am now testing negative. Hope this helps put your mind at ease regarding symptoms but for your panic attacks I think it would help to see your GP
Sending lots of love x
Hi Forgetmenot25
Thank you for your kind reply. I’m also so sorry to hear what you’re going through, I wish you all the love and strength for your little one’s communal cremation tomorrow.
Thank you, its really reassuring to hear it is normal to have “pregnancy” symptoms, as I thought I’d miscarried for almost 3 weeks before I got the EP diagnosis, I don’t think i’ve separated feeling some types of ‘unwell’ with feeling pregnant. I’m very emotional today, which I hadn’t been up until now really, so I definitely think my hormones are still raging.
I did go to the GP and had all my basics checked and she was very happy and I have been referred for a MH assessment today for the panic, I just hope that dwindles as the hormones go as I’d never had that before
Hi Katie2,
I’m so sorry to hear you have suffered an ectopic pregnancy and loss. It is still so recent and especially as you may not have realised what was happening, its normal your emotions may be catching up. You have been through so much in such a short period of time.
There is no set timeframe or set way to move through our emotions after an ectopic pregnancy. You may find that journalling or talking therapies are helpful to processing your feelings. It gives us a way to get our thoughts out of our heads and to process everything going on. Please know that you are not alone in how you feel. These boards are full of women and men who have been through ectopic pregnancy.
Right now, be good to yourself and take things in your own time. We are here for you any time and for as long as you need.
With good wishes,
Michele
