Hi all. I am now 10 weeks post eptopic pregnancy. I ruptured my tube and bled internally so had to have my right tube removed. I feel back to normal physically now but am concerned by a shooting pain I am getting on my right side, where my tube would have been I’m assuming! It’s sudden and sharp and not associated with exercise or any movement, it just happens randomly at different times. Any ideas what this is? Do I need to see my GP? (P.s. we are not TTC at present so not pregnant as far as I’m aware!)
Regards BudMaggie,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Experiencing some pain after an ectopic pregnancy is normal as your body has been through a great deal over the last few months. The pain may be due to adhesions (scar tissue that binds two parts of the body together) which form and take some time to settle. Your body may be preparing to ovulate and many women experience ovulation pain when they did not before their ectopic pregnancy - including myself. You also may have a heightened perception because of the sad loss that you have had to go through. If you find you experience offensive smelling discharge or an increased temperature of more than 37°C or just want to be checked out to be on the safe side, it would be worth asking your doctors to run tests to check for infection.
If the pain persists, I suggest keeping a pain diary noting when the pain appears, the intensity on a scale of 0-10 and anything that helps the pain eg resting, hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. Visiting your doctors with this information helps them to assess how best to manage your symptoms.
Sending much love,
Karen x

I have a gp appointment now for tomorrow so will see what they say but keeping a pain diary is a good idea. In my case, I’ve been pain free for about 4 weeks (obviously normal post op discomfort as expected initially but that had all settled down long before this pain started about two weeks ago). It’s intermittent pain, not associated with movement or exertion and not associated with the time I’d expect to ovulate (it’s pretty much been happening every day on and off for two weeks!) Feels lots like the pain I had pre surgery which is really strange as on same side and obviously I have no tube now! Could be adesions I guess…I had wondered that but not sure how that’s meant to feel and would have expected those to be causing the pain right from the start and this is new pain. Anyway, will feedback on here if something is found as may be helpful for others x
