I discovered a week a half weeks ago that I had an ectopic pregnancy after prolonged bleeding and a positive pregnancy test.
We have been trying for baby number 2 for just under a year.
I was medically managed and was injected with methotrexate a week ago today. On my 7 day check yesterday my levels had dropped by the required 15% (had been up at 2200 at their highest).
Ive been having twinges and pains in my left side where ectopic is/was and was wondering if this sounds like separation pains? The pain is not that bad that I would be alarmed, but is quite an achey sometimes sharp pain. I can also feel some twinges of pain down my leg (not the leg mtx was injected into).
It’s just such a horrible time, with the loss of a very much wanted baby, and the worry for your health. My heart goes out to anyone going through this. Thank you
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
When we experience ectopic pregnancy we are suddenly faced with a life threatening emergency and it’s treatment, reduction in fertility, concerns about the future and the loss of our babies. Experiencing any one of these is an ordeal, putting them together is immense and your feelings are completely normal.
I also experienced tummy pain following methotrexate injection and I found that it worsened about a week after I had the injection. Cramping abdominal (tummy) pain is the most common side effect, and it usually occurs during the first 2 to 3 days of treatment.
Although I do not wish to alarm you, because abdominal pain is also a sign of a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, report any abdominal pain to your health professional.
As a gentle reminder, please do not undertake any strenuous exercise or lifting or housework while your hCG levels are dropping. While I do not want to alarm you, there remains the risk of rupture even with low or declining hCG levels. You should not resume exercise until your hCG levels are falling consistently and are in the low 100s.
Sending much love and warm hugs,
Karen x

I know it’s such a shock thanks for your advice it’s good to talk to someone who’s been through similar…I am worried about future fertility it’s so stressful…how have you found the bleeding an other symptoms?? I’m still waiting for things to start…one minute I’m ok the next I’m crying again x
Thank you for your replies, and sorry for what you have gone through. I have now just started bleeding 10 days after methotrexate. I’m back up at the hospital for my blood test on Monday will mention the pains but they have kind of gone away now, just a twinge every now and again xx
