Methotrexate- 2 weeks on...Help!

How long should my tummy hurt/have pains after being diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy. I have had 1 dose of Methotrexate & my hcg on Monday was 103 so has gone down loads however even if I do a little housework after 2 weeks of Methotrexate I’m still in slight pain & have to stop.

Can anyone help please?

Hi Loz22,

Sorry to hear about your ectopic. I was given the MTX on May 9th and had pains on and off until a few days ago. On Wednesday my HCG was down to 3. So meaning I got pains pretty much all the way until I was close to 0. And every now and then I still have gas pains. So it does seem to take a while … hope you feel better soon!

Hi Loz22!

Sorry that you’re going through an ectopic. I had methotrexate 3 and a half weeks ago, I had really bad pains the first and second week along with a fair amount of bleeding.

This week my levels were at 63 but I’m still getting pains now. The pains aren’t as intense now or as frequent but I am still getting them, it feels as though someone is pinching my ovaries really hard or something! Also, getting painful bowels and wind (sorry for tmi!). Also still spotting at the moment, so it does seem to take a long time for everything to settle down and feels never ending! Hope you’re feeling back to normal soon!x

Dear Lozz22,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

I too felt twinges for quite some time following methotrexate injection, this is normal.

Sadly, there is still the chance of rupture with low or declining hCG levels. We advise avoiding anything that increases intra-abdominal pressure which includes exercise and heavy lifting such as house work. You should take things very easily in the early weeks of treatment. If your pain increases please seek medical advice.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Thank you for replying ladies…thankfully my hcg has gone down to 6 today which I thought maybe he case as I’ve started ovulating quite a lot, the past 2 days I’ve felt loads better & im back to doing a bit more each day, starting back at work tomorrow after 3 weeks of being off but I’ve told them I’m not doing any heavy lifting until I feel 100% better in myself.
