Hi, I found out yesterday that we had an ectopic at nearly 7 weeks. They’re querying a ruptured ectopic as they found fluid behind my womb. My hcg was low enough to allow me home without intervention and I’m due back in tomorrow for a repeat hcg. I was wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation with the fluid behind the womb and what your outcome was? Thank you x

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Sadly I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your symptoms.
I cannot be sure but I presume when you say ‘fluid behind your womb’ they mean fluid in your abdominal cavity? If this is the case this can happen with ruptured ectopic pregnancy.
If no pregnancy can be seen in the uterus but there is evidence of free fluid in your abdomen and or a possible ‘mass’ in the approximate location of one of your fallopian tubes, the doctor would then be likely to diagnose a possible ectopic pregnancy. An initial scan will detect over 70% of ectopic pregnancies. Treatment would depend on your hCG level and amount of free fluid seen, you can discuss this further with your medical team.
Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, I do have to remind you to seek urgent medical advice if you experience any worsening pain or bleeding, shoulder tip pain or feel dizzy and unwell.

Thanks for your reply, Karen. It was something we should have asked more about yesterday but we were just shocked about it after having no symptoms other than a bit of bleeding. I was just told fluid behind the womb which was never really explained other than the fact it could be a ruptured ectopic and possibly surgery. We are going to ask more about it tomorrow as it’s worrying us a bit as we didn’t have much info.
