PUL at 5w3d, another ectopic?

Hi everyone,

I found out I was pregnant again after my ruptured ectopic and the loss of my right tube in Oct 2023.

I was adamant to go for a really early scan this time so booked privately at 5w3d.

The sonographer said they couldn’t see anything at all. She checked in my training tube and couldn’t see anything at all either. She said endometrium was thick but couldnt see anything. I was sent for blood test and will have the results tomorrow but I’m terrified, I feel like it’s happening all over again.

The sonographer was really nice and supportive and told me that it was still early and that maybe I got my dates wrong as I didn’t track my ovulation this month but I’m worried.

Would she have been able to locate at this stage it in my tube if it was ectopic ?

I had no bleeding an no pain but very tender breasts and a uti since finding out.

Please let me know if you had similar experience, what was the outcome?

Thank you

Hi, I had a PUL nearly 5 weeks ago. I didn’t know I was pregnant until I was admitted to a&e with severe stomach pain and it was suspected ectopic. There was nothing on my scan at 5 weeks+2 and was told it may be too early. My bloods came back with dropping levels so was told I was losing it. I went back a week later and my bloods had gone from 328 up to 1117, this was something my gynecologist has never seen before so they re did the tests but my levels were going up very slowly now and a 2nd scan showed it had implanted in my right ovary. I was given the choice of medical or surgery management and I opted for methotrexate to try and save my ovary and tube. I’m now 17 days in and thankfully things are going well, my levels are dropping. I’m now at 479 from 2765 so hopefully it’ll be over soon. Mine wasn’t the best outcome so I hope yours is a different story :crossed_fingers:

Hi Morgan

I was diagnosed with a PUL at my 5 week scan at the EPU - they told me I might have got my ovulation dates wrong and I might not be as far along as I had thought I was. I was adamant I had my dates correct, but when I went back for another scan at 6 weeks there my baby was in the correct place and we even saw his heartbeat, amazing how much had changed in a week. But I know how worrying it is and how anxious you are feeling but hopefully my story gives you some reassurance!

Did you have your bloods today? If so have you had your results back? Wishing you the best of luck

x

Thank you so much for sharing your experience this is giving me hope.

I had my beta hcg result back today, they were 2600, which is in line with 4-5weeks according to my gynecologist.

I’m worried that the levels were so high but that nothing was seen on scan but my doctor reassured me over the phone that she didn’t see anything suggestive of another ectopic on scan and she didn’t want me to worry but instead have another scan next week but to get to A&E right away if I was experiencing pain/bleeding which is not the case as of now.

With my previous ectopic my beta hcg reached 400 and I ruptured then with horrible pain and bleeding.

Im currently 2600 with no pain no bleeding but don’t want to get my hopes up… I’m so confused and worried…

Gone forever, I’m so sorry about your loss.

I’m sending you so much love and strength :white_heart: I know how hard it is. Thank you for sharing your experience with me.

I’m definitely ready to go and run to A&E as soon as something feels or goes wrong, so we’ll see.

It’s hard to be hopeful and not worried right now. I’m wishing you all the best and that we’ll soon hold our rainbow babies :rainbow::white_heart:

Dear Morganecdn,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy, I truly understand what a worrying time this is for you.

We generally recommend scans at 6 weeks as there is a reasonable chance of seeing a pregnancy at this stage. So it is a possibility that it is just too early.

This also happened to me. I was admitted with pain at around 5weeks, nothing could be seen in the scan and hCG levels were quite high, so I was sent home and told to prepare for the worst (helpful)

A week later and I had a repeat scan and there was a little heart best in the correct location, so don’t give up hope.

Are you going back for repeat blood tests or a scan at some point.

I do sadly have to remind you to seek urgent medical advice with any pain or bleeding or you feel dizzy or unwell. But I am sending you lots of positive thoughts,

Karen x

Oh Karen,

Thank you so much for sharing your story, it does fill me with hope!

I have another scan on Friday, they didn’t want to see me earlier due to the possibility of it being too early still. I think I might have got my date wrong as my cycle tend to be on the longer side.

They didn’t order repeated blood tests as they were not worried and I haven’t had any worrying symptoms this time around.

I’ve been extremely anxious and I’m both impatient and dreading this scan but I’m grateful that so far I haven’t experienced either pain or bleeding and my pregnancy symptoms are progressing (nausea and breast sensitivity).

I’ve been told to go to A&E if anything worrying was coming up for me, which I’ll obviously do if it sadly comes to it.

Thank you again for your message, I’m so grateful for you to share your positive story with me.

I’m wishing you all the best xx

Just wanted to come with a little update for anyone in the same situation as me.

I went for another scan today and we saw a little bean at the right place and even saw a little heartbeat!

To say I’m relieved is an understatement.

I was worried out of my mind, even more so as I developed some pain and twinges on my right side where I have my remaining tube and was so sure that I was having the same happening to me all over again!

Hope that it gives hope to anyone else going through the same situation.

Congratulations Morgan! I love seeing positive stories like this.

I’m currently 4 weeks and very anxious analysing every pain and twinge! Really hoping for the same outcome as you !!

Congratulations Morgan! I’m so happy for you!! xx

Dear Morgan,

I am so pleased to hear your scan went well. Thank you so much for taking the time to update us, as you can see, it really does bring hope to do many.

Wishing you a smooth pregnancy,

Sending much love,

Karen x
