New and nervous!!

Hi all,

Bit nervous as it’s my first time posting on here and as a midwife I’m usually the one giving out advice and not on the other side  Anyway… Long story short:

I had an ectopic 10 years ago now. (I already have a son who is 12 years old) back then I was treated with the methotrexate injection and kept both my tubes. Fast forward to 2015 and deciding to start trying for a baby. As soon as my coil was taken out something changed with my periods and I just knew something wasn’t right. (Probably just a sad coincidence)

Anyway, after 6 months of trying I was given an ultrasound which showed a hydrosalpinx where the ectopic was 10 years ago  I’ve also had the hormone tests and they weren’t right either. I am having surgery next Wednesday to remove the damaged tube and check everything out in there.

I am super nervous and I think it’s probably worse because of where I work. Knowing more isn’t always better!! So… Any advice from people who have had any experience of this would be much appreciated!

Dear DesperateMidwife,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and your ongoing concerns.

Whilst I do not have any experience with hydrosalpinx, I do appreciate your worries about your surgery. Try to think of the positives that you are aware of how highly skilled your surgical team are.

With regards to your hormone tests, I presume at some point after you have recovered from your surgery, these will be investigated further. If not, when you feel strong enough, do chase them up.

I will be thinking of you Wednesday.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Much love and warm hugs,

Karen x
