MTX after surgery

I had ectopic surgery on the 31st December. The egg was milked from my left tube.

My HCG on the 31st Dec was around 2000, then it dropped to 290 on the 2nd Jan, on the 7th Jan it was 149.

I had my blood test again on the 16th Jan and it increased to 290 again. My doctor says I need the injection on MTX.

I don’t want to have methotrexate after the operation. Maybe I can wait for my HCG level to go down on its own later? What options are used in these cases in the UK?

And how long should I wait before planning pregnancy after MTX?

Dear Irina,

I am so sorry you are going through all of this. Unfortunately we cannot provide personalised medical advice. Generally speaking of hCG was rising and the woman had been assessed to not have any bleeding in her abdomen and be clinically stable and not have any other reasons why methotrexate couldn’t be prescribed (as it isn’t suitable for everyone) then methotrexate could be offered as a treatment option.

I would advise speaking through all your concerns with your medical team.

Sending much love,

Karen x
